Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

The Family Specialist (L1) is responsible for fostering a safe and trauma-informed environment in which supervised visits take place between the visiting party and child(ren). The Specialist is responsible for conducting observational visits with families and documenting visits in real time. The Specialist must remain neutral and professional when conducting observational visits and may need to offer support and crisis de-escalation to families as needed. The specialist will coach families using strength-based methodologies to support the overall well-being of families and children's progress towards goals.

  • Parenting Time Observation
  • Actively adhere to the six core principles of trauma-informed care and promote a trauma-informed culture and healing-centered treatment.

  • Observes and records interactions during supervised visits. Intervenes as necessary.
  • Documents all contacts, including visits and exchanges.
  • Completes accurate and factual documentation of all visits.
  • Follows orders as set forth by the referring court.
  • Ensures the safety and security of all participants.
  • Must be able to deal with difficult people from a diverse population effectively.
  • Must be able to prioritize problems to meet all requirements and demands.
  • Maintains communication with leadership regarding any changes, issues, or concerns in the provision of service.
  • Works collaboratively and communicates appropriately with other staff members.
  • Attends and participates in team meetings, staff meetings, and supervision as scheduled.
  • Participates in training and professional development to maintain professional licensure, enhance skills and knowledge base, and comply with training regulations.
  • Responds respectfully and effectively to people of all cultures, classes, race, ethnic backgrounds, and religions in a manner that recognizes, affirms, and values the worth of individuals, families, and communities and protects and preserves the dignity of each.
  • Educates parents on safety and risk awareness, increasing natural support, fatherhood, and improving parenting skills.
  • Coach parenting skills based on promising practices and evidence-based models.
  • Provides advocacy and assistance to parents and caregivers in negotiating barriers that get in the way of them supporting the children in their home (financial, housing, food security, transportation, schools, health care, etc.)
  • Compliance

  • Maintains regular contact with stakeholders involved in client caseload to ensure communication about program participation and progress to goals to support client's success best.
  • Maintain 50% of work hours in direct contact with parents and caregivers participating in the program and assigned to caseload.
  • Monitor client engagement in services and communicate gaps and methods for re-engagement.
  • Conducts assessments with outcome tools to understand needs and support identifying and achieving goals.
  • Complete documentation promptly, accurately, consistently, and according to agency contractual agreements and COA standards.
  • Adheres to ethical standards of professionalism, including maintaining confidentiality of each child and their family, in compliance with HIPAA and agency policies.
  • Working outside of standard office hours, including evenings and weekends, is also required.
  • This role is office, and community-based and requires frequent travel throughout the community to support program recruitment, events, and outreach. Office responsibilities may be a mix of hybrid (in-person, online). Working outside of standard office hours, including evenings and weekends, is also required.

    Qualifications

    Education and / or Work Experience Requirements :

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Associates or Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Early Childhood Education, Child & Family Studies, Criminal Justice or related Human Services area preferred.
  • 3+ years related work experience supporting services for kids and families.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Knowledge of case management and mental health billing.
  • Knowledge of peer-to-peer support and / or mentoring.
  • Strong coaching ability with the capability to customize a developed program to meet the needs of varying customers.
  • Solid organizational and collaborative skills, with the ability to work independently and have a method to maintain organization.
  • Outstanding facilitation skills, with the ability to engage and train diverse audiences.
  • Willingness to maintain a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend hours.
