Advertised Job Summary :

The Office of Access, Civil Rights, and Community Engagement at the University of South Carolina is seeking to hire an Associate Director for Community Engagement to join our team.

The Associate Director (AD) reports directly to the Executive Director for Community Engagement and will collaborate on building the capacity of the Office of Community Engagement (OCE) both on and off campus through creating expansive networks and partnerships. This position calls for a dynamic, visionary individual who will be a strong advocate for the OCE and provide leadership that fosters excellence in community-engaged research and creative activities. This position requires building strong relationships with college and school leadership as well as community partners.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience :

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 5 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and / or experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Master’s degree in education, public administration, development, urban planning or related field.
  • Prior teaching experience in a higher education setting.
  • Familiarity with USC systems (e.g., Blackboard, USCeRA).
  • Grant writing and / or management experience.
  • Knowledge of community-engaged scholarship.
  • Knowledge / Skills / Abilities :

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, OneNote); Adobe Acrobat; and Canva for digital content creation and presentation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with a demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Keen attention to detail and accuracy in clerical and financial tasks.
  • Ability to work independently, efficiently, and resourcefully.
  • Demonstrates capacity for critical thinking and problem-solving.
  • Collaborative team player with a professional and proactive attitude.
  • Ambitious and motivated to contribute to a mission-driven environment focused on building stronger university-community relations.

  • Lead and manage professional development of community engaged faculty, staff, community partners through workshops, webinars, and annual events that emphasize best community engagement practices.
  • Establish and oversee Communities of Practice and other recognition efforts (e.g., Fellows program, Affiliate departments / offices) as needed.
  • Manage and oversee online community-focused resources and tools that assist community organizations / members in navigating university (e.g., Guidebook, community-engagement contact lists).
  • Increase visibility on campus, in the community, as well as via national networks related to education on university-community partnerships.

  • Advise and oversee OCE grant management (e.g., follow up with sub recipients, data collection).

  • Supervise full-time (e.g., Ameri-Corps VISTA) and part-time (e.g., Graduate Assistant) staff members as they carry out OCE initiatives

  • Manage and oversee projects assigned to staff requiring clerical support, such as data entry, generating reports, and document preparation as needed.
