Fleet Services By Cox Automotive is currently hiring a Mobile Diesel Technician Level II

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance ("PM"), DOT Inspections and follow up repairs on light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile / field environment.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment including Electrical / Brake / Cooling Systems, Starters / Alternators, Fan clutches, Engine electronics, Diesel steering systems, Engines (gas and diesel), Transmissions (manual and automatic), Clutches, Differentials, etc.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment and systems as listed above; inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments.
  • Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
  • Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and generate / evaluate alternatives.
  • Independently manage parts inventory and equipment provided on the company-issued service truck; perform periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate the company-issued service vehicle; conduct safety checks and pre- / post-trip inspections.
  • Work with clients to assess needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, or satisfy expectations.
  • Manage concurrent tasks, prioritize work-related activities and time allocations.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, and Diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts and jacks.
  • Document work according to company standards and upload pictures of work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders using the iOS device and TRAIT application.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely fashion.
  • Work with a high degree of independence and manage own daily schedule.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to standard repair times.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary for repairs.
  • Communicate with management and support team to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve PO numbers, and discuss RO findings notes.
  • Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health and environmental policies and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
  • Maintain the service truck, conduct safety checks and daily pre- / post-trip inspections.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma / GED and 3 years' related experience; or an equivalent combination of education / experience; or 5 years' related experience.
  • Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
  • Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months.
  • Must be able to complete and pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
  • A current and valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical; if four months or less remain, a DOT physical is required.
  • Minimum age 21 due to interstate operating authority commerce regulations.
  • Valid driver's license; ability to obtain and maintain Driver Qualification File.
  • Must have a Class C license.
  • Certifications

  • ASE T8 (PMI) certification (required within 18 months).

  • ASE T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems)
  • ASE T7 (HVAC)
  • ASE 608 / 609 certification
