The Supported Living Aid (SLA) provides personalized assistance to individuals with unique abilities who require help with tasks such as preparing meals, doing light housekeeping, and laundry. Work is performed in various settings depending on the needs of the care recipient and may include locations such as their home and out in the community. Provides overall personal support to persons we serve by teaching skills that foster independence and community integration as directed and guided by the person’s Individual Service Plan (ISP)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities : include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Advocacy : Assists the people we serve in achieving their personal goals as much as possible; works with them to overcome barriers; helps them participate in activities of their choice; respects all their personal beliefs, choices, and interests.
  • Health Maintenance and Safety : Assists in maintain a safe environment for all the people we serve and follows all specialized care plans in accordance with the Individual Service Plan (ISP).
  • Living Skills Development : In accordance with the ISP, provides support by teaching skills that foster independence and community integration. Such skills may include : cooking, money management, household shopping, laundry, personal hygiene. Supports the client in maintaining their home and accessing community activities as well as their spiritual enrichment choices. Records progress of their skill development and achievements.
  • Behavioral Development : Serves as a role model and mentor, demonstrating desired behaviors and coaching by using approved techniques and strategies; in accordance with the ISP may use approved physical intervention techniques when necessary to ensure everyone’s safety. Must be able to work as part of a team to achieve positive outcomes for the client and programs.

  • Operational Support : Maintains cleanliness of the program area and / or home by performing housekeeping duties such as cleaning, washing clothes and dishes, maintaining cleanliness of the program vehicle, basic maintenance of the outside house appearance; completes tasks beyond the clients’ abilities, follows all policies & procedures for handling money.
  • Professional Behavior : Acts in a professional manner; supports the mission and vision of the organization; adheres to all organizational policies and procedures; completes all training programs and requirements; attends required meetings.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities : This job has no supervisory responsibilities

    Qualifications : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each and every essential duty in a very satisfactory manner.     Education and / or Experience : High School Diploma or equivalent.

    Language Skills : Ability to read well and understand written documents and instructions in the English language. Ability to write well and clearly in English on all reports and correspondence. Must have excellent ability to professionally communicate effectively with customers, clients, supervisors, and other employees.

    Mathematical Skills : Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs

    Reasoning Ability : Ability to solve problems with a variety of variables in standardized situations and apply common sense solutions that comply with organizational policies. Ability to understand and follow through on instructions furnished in either oral, written, or diagram form.

    Computer Skills : Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office on a Windows based computer system.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations : Ability to complete and maintain all required training certifications in accordance with all organizational, County, State, and Federal regulations.

    Driving Requirements : This position requires the employee to be able to drive for work purposes and he or she must maintain a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. This position may require the use of the employee’s personal vehicle. Driving of 15 passenger vans and lift buses is required in Programs.

    Other Skills and Abilities : Ability to respond to and de-escalate behavior issues. Strong organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Ability to make sound decisions. Ability to establish and maintain effective professional working relationships. Ability to be flexible to meet the needs of the organization.

    Other Qualifications : Knowledge about people with developmental disabilities.

Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 50 pounds unassisted. If the lift is greater, the employee is required to get assistance.
