Summary
Our Yuma Garage has an opportunity to grow your career as a Pre-Apprentice Auto Mechanic. As a Pre-Apprentice Auto Mechanic you will be responsible for performing preventative maintenance inspections and regular maintenance on light duty vehicles. Upon successful completion of UTI Training Classes (ATD 112 & ATD 127) you will complete inspections on DOT vehicles and equipment and signed off by a Journeyman. The Pre-Apprentice Auto Mechanic will assist Journeyman with repairs and 90 day inspections on all our equipment.

The primary work hours for this position are Monday- Friday 1 : 00pm - 9 : 00pm (AZ / MST).
During Training and Schooling work hours may change to 05 : 30am - 2 : 00pm (AZ / MT) and Alternate shifts.
In order to be considered you must meet or exceed the following qualifications :
If the successful applicant has a CDL Permitthey must obtain a valid Class A Commercial Drivers License for manual transmission with no mechanical restrictions (i.e. airbrakes) within forty-five (45) days of their official start date.
Selected candidates that have not already completed the CAST test or are eligible to retest will be invited to take the CAST test
Selected candidates that meet the minimum qualifications will be subject to the following requirements :
Upon completion of the Auto Mechanic Apprentice Program this position will have a retention requirement to remain in the area for which they have been hired (Yuma) for a minimum of two (2) years.

Testing Information
Tests are only administered to referred candidates. More information about our tests and the testing process can be found HERE.
A written paper and pencil test will be administered.
A test using a computer with keyboard will be administered.
A hands-on skills test will be administered.

Role Type
Onsite : Requires work to be performed in the field and / or at an APS facility. Depending on the responsibilities of the role this may include but is not limited to working at a power plant job site or in the community.
Eligibility :
Must live or relocate within reasonable distance to the headquarters. Reasonable distance is defined as one (1) hour for Metro and State Region locations. Reasonable distance for Troublemen Local Representatives and Substation Technicians is defined as thirty (30) minutes for Metro locations and forty-five (45) minutes for State Region locations. Failure to accept a job offer due to the reasonable distance requirement specific to the position will be counted toward the bid restriction as described in Article 13 Section 11
For jobs in departments ( System Reliability Hotstick ) that require the majority of the work be performed out-of-town and as such employees / crews are not required to report to the established headquarters unless directed by Leadership; the reasonable distance requirement will be waived
