Job description

Position Opening : Behavior Intervention Program (BIP) Specialist

Position Summary : The Behavior Intervention Program (BIP) Specialist is responsible for working one-on-one with students exhibiting pre-adolescent / adolescent behaviors that will benefit from redirection, de-escalation strategies, and restorative practices and their families to determine appropriate and effective interventions that will ensure success in school and the community.

Position Status : Full-time, benefits eligible

Regular Hours : 35 hours / week; 8 : 15a - 3 : 15p Mondays – Fridays

Additional Hours : All Staff Monthly Meetings (3 : 30 - 5p) and quarterly evening and / or weekend program events with prior notice

Salary : $54,500 - $57,200

Grade Level : High School

Reports to : BIP Supervisor / Executive Director

RESPONSIBILITIES

Student, Family, and Educator Support

  • Facilitate and provide social-emotional support for middle school or high school students who have been identified by the school through teacher and / or staff input to be exhibiting pre-adolescent / adolescent behaviors that will benefit from redirection, de-escalation strategies, and restorative practices in school or the community.
  • Always ensure an active caseload of 25 youth.
  • Proactively engage with youth, their family, school, and community resources to develop specific measurable goals, meeting with youth in-person or over video at minimum on a weekly basis.
  • Continually collaborate with community resources that provide mentoring, youth development, mental health, vocational or other services to assist youth in developing a success plan.
  • Develop training and compile resources for youth that address anger management, problem solving, personal development, and effective social skills.
  • Provide opportunities for students to have meaningful engagement with the Saint Paul Public Schools (SPPS) restorative practices process.

Data and Documentation

  • Record student outcome data in Apricot in accordance with program requirements and direction from supervisor.
  • Document all communications (emails, phone calls, in-person visits, etc.) in Apricot ensuring accurate recordkeeping.
  • Professional Development

  • Attend Professional Development in-person or online as identified with supervisor.
  • POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    Desired Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
  • 2+ years of related experience or training required
  • Demonstrated success working with youth and families to achieve measurable outcomes required
  • Experience providing de-escalation, redirection, and restorative practices in a school setting preferred
  • Must pass a criminal background check
  • Computer and related software experience, such as Apricot or similar social service documentation programs and Outlook
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Strong interpersonal and coaching communication skills
  • Ability to develop effective relationships and work collaboratively in a professional environment
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, coordinate, and manage own work
  • Possess a thorough, organized and detail-oriented approach to work and effective time management skills
  • Ability to exercise discretion and maintain a high level of confidentiality

  • WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work in-person and at Partner School
  • Must have reliable transportation to visit multiple work locations around the Twin Cities and surrounding areas as needed
  • Occasional remote / in-person SPYS’ Office (Team Meeting, Professional Development, administrative task)
