Job description

The Washington Center for Equitable Growth is a nonprofit research and grantmaking organization dedicated to advancing evidence-backed ideas and policies that promote strong, stable, and broad-based economic growth. Equitable Growth engages with academics and policymakers to better understand economic inequality in the United States and its impact on economic growth. Important elements of Equitable Growth's mission include grantmaking to academic economists and other social scientists to support new research on inequality, mobility, growth, and related issues, as well as work to apply the best available academic evidence to the policy world. Building a stronger bridge between academics and the policy community and elevating researchers and their work with the news media are both key to our work, with the goal of making new research relevant, accessible, and informative to the policymaking process.

The Washington Center for Equitable Growth provides flexible visiting fellow opportunities for academics and policy leaders to write and speak on behalf of Equitable Growth on various topics of mutual interest to the organization and the fellow. Equitable Growth prioritizes fellows with experience working in the federal government.

Beyond public affiliation, the benefits to the fellow may include :

  • Editorial review and publication support
  • Support with media relations
  • Increased visibility
  • Support with providing testimony to federal and state legislators
  • Network and connections with Equitable Growth staff, grantees, and visiting fellows
  • Office space

Visiting fellows work remotely with Equitable Growth on a consultant basis and are not employees of the organization. Typical visiting fellowship durations are 6-12 months. A statement of work will be proposed by candidates for fellowships and included in a contract with Equitable Growth.

Visiting fellows will be expected to have :

  • Experience with and ability to synthesize research and inform policy change
  • Understanding of the role of research and evidence-based policymaking in the economic policy landscape
  • A strong understanding of academic and policymaking communities relevant to Equitable Growth's work
  • Demonstrated commitment to the values of Equitable Growth
  • Equitable Growth reviews applications on a rolling basis and will reach out if we have a need in your area of expertise. Current areas of interest include care, antitrust, AI, and austerity , and we are open to considering other areas of economic policy. To be considered, please submit the following :

  • A curriculum vitae or resume.
  • A one- to two-page proposal of work to be completed as a visiting fellow, including timeline, expected level of effort (i.e., hours spent per week), requests for support from Equitable Growth, and a discussion of why Equitable Growth is the right place to host this work.
  • The Washington Center for Equitable Growth is actively committed to promoting and maintaining the importance of diversity to its work. We encourage everyone across the spectrums of race, ethnicity, nationality, ability, age, gender identity and expression, educational background, sexual orientation, and religion to apply.
