Job description

We are looking for a Senior UX Designer to join our global UX team and help crafting intuitive and engaging digital experiences

As a Senior User Experience Designer, you will work closely with users and internal stakeholders to design expectational user experiences across a suite of tools that support scholarly research, funding and publishing. You will also work to accomplish product and business objectives, and with the software development staff to convey requirements, understand and work within technical constraints, and optimize the efficiency and quality of design implementations.

Bring your empathy and analytical skills to understand customer journeys and leverage user feedback and data for continuous improvement. Collaborate closely with product owners and tech leads across all stages of the design process—from conception to implementation—to ensure consistency, coherence, and user-centered design in everything you create.

About You – experience, education, skills, and accomplishments

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field such as Library Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, Cognitive Psychology, Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a design-related discipline
  • 3+ years’ experience in rapid wire-framing and prototyping tools, with strong preference for experience in Figma
  • Familiarity with front-end development technologies such as Angular is a plus
  • A portfolio demonstrating your experience creating great user-centered designs
  • Adept in the design and documentation of complex interfaces
  • Expertise in modern visual and interactive product design, specifically modern web technologies
  • Solid experience and competency performing and analyzing usability research
  • Master’s degree in design
  • Previous experience with accessibility standards (W3C WAI guidelines)
  • Experience working in the Academic Research & Publishing space
  • Foundational knowledge of web technologies, including their capabilities and limitations (HTML, CSS, XML, JavaScript, etc.)

What will you be doing in this role?

  • Identify user needs and requirements by working closely with internal and external stakeholders
  • Translate requirements into highly usable, efficient and delightful user interface designs :

  • Design and specify product experience concepts using iterative design techniques, including persona creation, journey mapping, customer research and usability testing.
  • Participate in design and implementation reviews.
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, information architecture, pattern libraries, standards and guidelines.
  • Analyze quantitative and qualitative data and identify additional research needs as well as effectively communicate research findings.
  • Specify design and interaction requirements for development teams.
  • Collaborate with development teams to ensure consistent and standardized designs across our products.
  • Maintain and enhance our product design systems, effectively collaborating with development teams to bring designs to life in our end products
  • Plan and manage time appropriately to deliver high quality work on time

    Hours of Work

    This is a full-time permanent position based in UK and will require hybrid working in our London or Cambridge offices (2 days per week in office, rest of week remote). This position requires weekday (Monday - Friday) attendance with some scheduling flexibility available around core working hours.
