Job description

Research Associate Job Description

The Research Associate participates in planning, design, execution, and management of research projects within a foundational biological / health science research laboratory. The focus is on the Acute Lung Injury (ALI) Research Program, a multidisciplinary initiative investigating mechanisms of lung injury and repair using advanced molecular, biochemical, and clinical tools. The role is based in the Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine.

Key responsibilities include :

  • Developing and implementing study goals and objectives.
  • Designing and executing complex laboratory experiments.
  • Performing advanced molecular and cellular techniques.
  • Collecting, analyzing, and interpreting research data.
  • Assisting in developing and revising research methodologies and techniques.
  • Testing experimental designs and analytical methods, and making recommendations.
  • Establishing controls, criteria, and research standards.
  • Conducting critical literature reviews relevant to ongoing research.
  • Assisting in preparing research papers, manuscripts, and reports for publication and presentation at conferences and workshops.
  • Supporting the principal investigator in preparing proposals for extramural funding.
  • Coordinating laboratory activities and supervising research staff and students.
  • Overseeing maintenance and testing of laboratory equipment.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications include a Master's degree in a relevant biological / health science or equivalent experience. The ability to apply academic and practical knowledge in research is essential. Prior research experience in a biological / health science setting is preferred. Candidates must successfully complete a background check and may be required to pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening.
