In accordance with the department policies and standard procedures, the Doctor’s main task is to provide a professional medical service for guests and crew members ensuring no outbreaks occur on the ship.
Responsibilities
- Conducts medical and surgical interventions as required for guests and crewmembers and dispenses required medication
- Complies with all medical procedures relating to Acute Gastroenteritis Surveillance, Norovirus, H1N1 etc. including data collection, definitions, records, logs, questionnaires, retention and special reports
- Advises the Staff Captain of any emergency case requiring shore side attention or intervention unavailable on board
- Assists relevant authorities for port inspections
- Supervises the medicines and medical supplies inventory made by the Nurse
- Ensures that all medications and drugs are maintained on a First-in-First-Out rotation, and that all expired medications are removed from the dispensary, packaged and recorded, ready for discharge
- Examines all pre-embarkation health documents of embarking crew to verify the documented health and fitness of new crewmembers, reporting any issues to the Staff Captain
- Ensures the medical centre is maintained in a permanent state of sanitary cleanliness
Requirements
A recognised medical certification is required before starting to work on boardBasic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certificatesAt least 5 years as a general medical practitioner supported by valid certificatesFundamental knowledge of all Sanitation Standards relating to medical requirementsSound knowledge of responsibilities in relation to Food, Water and Air SafetyFluently spoken EnglishAbility to make decisions in a fast-paced environmentExcellent problem solving / decision-making skillsPleasant and communicative characterProfessional attitude and appearanceReliability and hard workGreat team spiritBenefits
