Combo Deli Clerk

BASIC PURPOSE AND FUNCTION : Provides courteous, personalized service to customers through the preparation and sale of custom sliced and packaged deli items, food / party trays, hot and cold prepared take-out foods, salads, pizzas, and bakery items. Maintains proper inventory levels of pro­ ducts and maintains the cleanliness and appearance of the Combo Deli Department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with an emphasis on providing fast, friendly, courteous customer service. Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques via telephone, in-storeintercom and one-on-one customer contact. Helps customers with special orders for cakes and other bakery items.

Responsible for cost and quality control. Ensures cleanliness and sanitation of department equip­ment and work area. Ensures a safe work environment.

Performs receiving duties including : organizing cooler and storage areas, refrigerating products immediately, verifying orders against invoices, reporting shortages and claims to ensure proper billing, dating and rotating products to ensure freshness and quality. May order product. Responsi­ ble for staying informed on the price, ingredients and availability of products. Keeps baker inform­ ed of inventory levels to ensure a constant supply of products. Fills out inventory and production sheets on a daily basis.

Follows proper and efficient product preparation and packaging techniques, complies with State labeling requirements, Albertson's code dating procedures and Division policy for "Yesterday's Bake" items. Follows company guidelines and division schematics for setting up and maintaining the stock, cleanliness and appeal of product show cases, display tables, and special displays. Follows proper signing procedures.

Uses and operates related equipment such as : kitchen utensils, fryers, conventionaland microwave ovens, pizza ovens, slicers, grills, food processors, wrappers, scales, printers and pallet jacks. Prepares sandwiches, pizzas, hot and cold foods, and food / party trays according to company stan­dards. Processes bread and dinner rolls.

May open or close the Combo Deli according to company procedures. Responsible for performing all job duties with honesty and integrity.

SKILLS, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK CONDITIONS :

Ability to be friendly, courteous, tactful and maintain composure in dealing with customers and co-workers. Must possess good communication skills, legible handwriting, and the ability to read and follow directions .

Ability to frequently reach, lift and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to ap­ proximately 55 lbs. Ability to frequently do repetitious arm and shoulder movements necessary for slicing, cutting and preparing various deli products.

Ability to stand for long periods of time, walk and move rapidly, bend, stoop, twist and turn fre­quently. Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are necessary.Must be able to operate kitchen utensils, equipment and work aides. Ability to push and pull fully loaded four-wheel and six-wheel carts and pallet jacks.

Mental alertness is necessary to ensure safe and accurate completion of work activities. Requires knowledge of basic math, and weights and measures. Must be able to learn taste, content and perishability of products, safety and sanitation procedures, and department policies and procedures.

Exposure to potential hazards exists with respect to cooking and baking procedures, equipment

and work aides necessary to perform job duties. Some exposure to temperatures of approximately 150 degrees Fahrenheit while handling products in hot cases, 35 degrees Fahrenheit while handl­ ing product in cold cases, and 400 degrees Fahrenheit while baking product in ovens. Working conditions consist of a temperature controlled store environment.
