Be part of a major Maintenance and Storage Facility project in Los Angeles County. We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer with a PE License in CA to lead the design and engineering production for a 20 acre facility for LA Metro.
The Senior Engineer will be responsible for the mechanical systems engineering design and construction of bus and rail maintenance and storage facilities. The mechanical systems include HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and ventilation for rail underground and aboveground stations. The Senior Engineer will also oversee the design and construction work of mechanical systems performed by outside consultants and agency integrated project teams to ensure compliance with agency criteria, codes, and standards.
Essential Knowledge and Abilities
- Theories, principles, and current practices of engineering analysis, design, and construction in appropriate discipline
- Fundamentals of architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, vehicle, systems design, and environmental engineering as they relate to assigned engineering discipline
- Engineering design codes
- Applicable federal, state (Title 24), and local codes, standards, policies, procedures, and regulations
- Reading and understanding plans, specifications, mechanical drawings, and diagrams
- Serve as lead for engineering activities for bus and rail transit engineering projects from conception to completion
- Compile, analyze, and interpret complex data in order to prepare comprehensive reports and correspondence
- Analyze situations, identify problems, and recommend solutions ? Understand, interpret, and apply codes, regulations, specifications, and project contract agreements
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Plans, organizes, assigns, implements, and manages engineering projects in accordance with budget and schedule requirementsProvides engineering design services and design support during construction; provides support for project bid and award phase, construction management, closeout, activation, and startup activities for bus and rail transit projectsReviews contract documents, shop drawings, specifications, RFI (request for information), and DDR (detailed design review) for compliance with codes, project specifications, and owner criteriaReviews designs for quality, constructability, and cost effectiveness; recommends design changesAssures project compliance with design criteria and standards, workplans, safety guidelines, maintenance requirements, and operational needsUpdates and enforces the Design Standards and CriteriaWorks with engineering and construction disciplines to identify and resolve problems which may impact the progress of the project or users existing or planned operational performanceProvides guidance, coaching, training, and oversees the work product of employees in area of expertiseExperience and Education
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical EngineeringLicensed PE in CaliforniaTen (10) years of relevant experience in appropriate engineering discipline, including design and construction of public transit projects or major public agency projectsStrong background with HVAC, Plumbing, and Building Mechanical Systems
