Program Director

The Girls on the Run Program Director must possess a passion for the mission of Girls on the Run : We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running.
Girls on the Run is a 16-lesson after-school program from March-May that utilizes games, activities, and small group conversations to provide girls with the confidence to love themselves, practice resilience, and use their voices to stand up for themselves and others. Girls on the Run Michiana is an independent 501(c)(3) organization, one of over 140 independent Girls on the Run councils across the U.S. and Canada. Our territory includes St. Joseph, Elkhart, Marshall, Fulton, and Kosciusko counties. We serve over 1,000 girls at over 65 schools in an 8-week program each spring.
Key Responsibilities
Program Outreach and Site Management
- Implement the Girls on the Run strategic program plan to collectively achieve goals in regards to program quality and number of girls served
- Set up and promote registration for new and returning sites
- Identify and recruit community-based and school sites, conducting outreach to potential new sites in targeted areas and onboarding new GOTR sites via visits to schools and small group liaison trainings
- Oversee in-season site visits to build relationships and provide support and appreciation to sites / liaisons / coaches
Coach Management and Training
Manage online coach registration and oversee completion of online training for new and returning coachesPrepare and co-lead delivery of new and returning coach trainings, comfortably presenting a structured training to small and large groups. Oversee logistics, set-up, etc. for trainingsSelect, train, and oversee 5-10 mentor coaches to provide individualized support new head coachesManage coach recognition / gratitude efforts to maximize coach retentionProgram Management
Set up and manage online registration platform / processes for program participantsCreate and send weekly communication to coaches / liaisons during 8-week seasonCreate and send weekly communication to families / caregivers during 8-week seasonUpdate and oversee annual coach and parent / caregiver evaluationsOversee participant financial assistance policies and proceduresOversee a small GOTR program committee of volunteersBudget and Administrative
Track program budget; provide communication and input to Executive Director on program budget needsManage all coach files, sites files, team rosters, MOU's, and other program related paperworkManage one program employee, delegating work appropriately, communicating regularly, and providing appreciation and feedbackOrganizational Support
Collaborate with GOTRM staff to communicate program impact, providing quotes, stories, and updates that help create a culture of philanthropy and volunteerism throughout the organizationPlay a key role at two end-of-season 5K events in MayAttend 3-4 community events / year on behalf of the organization to raise awareness of Girls on the Run or in support of a key partnershipPresent occasionally to the GOTRM BoardQualifications

While work is 80% remote and flexible, set hours include :
Weekly staff gathering (currently Tuesdays 9 : 30 a.m. 12 noon)Weekly meeting time with Program Assistant as needed (currently 1-2 hrs / week)Weekly meeting time with Executive Director as needed (currently 1-2 hrs / week)5-8 days / year for coach trainings and events (typically Saturdays / Sundays)Two 5K events and packet pick-up events in mid-MayAnnual all-day staff retreat (Aug / Sept)Community outreach events (3-5 per year)Availability for site visits 1-2 afternoons / week during the 8-week programThe Program Director will be expected to attend national training as part of the fabulous Girls on the Run Summit Conference (June 27-July 1, 2026 in Cleveland, OH all expenses paid by council.)
Benefits
This position offers a starting wage that is commensurate with experience (approximately $24.00 - $27.00 / hour). Benefits include a flexible schedule, remote work, a professional development stipend, a technology stipend, a wellness stipend, the option to participate in a SIMPLE IRA with 3% match, mileage reimbursement beyond the distance of travel to the office, and a collaborative and supportive work environment. There are currently no group medical or dental benefits with this position.
