Reporting And Response Coordinator And Senior Title IX Officer

The Reporting and Response Coordinator and Senior Title IX Officer serves as a key team member in the University's compliance with federal and state civil rights laws. This position plays a central role in overseeing, managing and responding to reports of protected class discrimination and harassment, including sexual and gender-based misconduct. The Reporting and Response Coordinator and Senior Title IX Officer will report directly to the AVP for Institutional Equity, Accessibility, and Compliance and will serve as the primary recipient of all reports and complaints, initial contact person, and will also manage all resolution processes. This position will work closely with the Director of Investigations and Title IX Coordinator to make initial recommendations as well as evaluate and respond to reports. The incumbent will work closely, on a case-by-case basis, with the Office of General Counsel, University Human Resources, Campus Life, Athletics, other campus partners, and the Director of Investigations and Title IX Coordinator. In addition to the above-mentioned duties, the incumbent's responsibilities as Senior Title IX Officer include developing informational materials and implementing training programs for faculty, staff, and students on reporting and adjudication processes related to equal opportunity, non-discrimination, Title IX and other related topics.

Education and Experience Required Qualifications :

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in a field related to the primary duties and responsibilities of the position plus one (1) to three (3) years of related experience in conducting intake of matters, overseeing the progress of matters, setting and meeting deadlines, and public speaking in a higher education, non-profit or other relevant setting.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education may be used to evaluate candidates who do not expressly meet the minimum qualifications listed above.
  • In depth knowledge of the federal and state laws pertaining to gender-based discrimination and harassment and sexual misconduct, as they apply to colleges and universities including Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Title IX of the Educational Amendments Act of 1972 (Title IX), the Jeanne Clery Act of 1990 (Clery Act), the Violence Against Women Act of 1994 (VAWA), all as amended where applicable, and other federal and state laws, regulations and court decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply above educational civil rights laws to individual reports and complaints, often identifying and applying general principles of those laws to any given situation.
  • Ability to quickly and competently assess and respond to situations to determine the appropriate response.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability in managing confidential information and independently and efficiently managing a significant caseload.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • At least two years of related experience in higher education non-discrimination compliance.
  • Working knowledge of trauma-informed practices.
  • Working knowledge of typical university policies and procedures related to discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct.
  • Knowledge of contemporary issues surrounding discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct in the university setting.
  • Knowledge of the Maxient software.

  • Strong skills in the areas of conflict resolution, problem solving techniques and interviewing.
  • Exceptional critical thinking skills demonstrated by the ability to analyze information, evaluate results, and facilitate resolution of difficult challenges, including the ability to handle issues of complex and extreme sensitivity.
  • Extensive knowledge of the elements of proof for discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct and retaliation.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion, tact, professionalism and superior judgment and analytical skills and neutrality in highly sensitive situations involving allegations of sexual misconduct.
  • Strong and effective interpersonal skills; the ability to listen well and the ability to both be and project impartiality and establish rapport with a diverse range of community members.
  • Ability to work as part of a University-wide community to resolve complaints in a neutral and sensitive manner.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional and productive working relationships with staff at all levels at the University.
  • Must be able to work independently and collaboratively across the organization.
