Position Title : Welder II, III

Summary of duties - The Welder applies appropriate welding processes to join, surface, fabricate, or repair parts of metal or other weldable materials for production. Lays out and marks position pieces on parts or sub-assemblies using rule, square, scribe or templates. Fits by hand or position pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides, and steps using measuring instruments and / or hand tools. May perform fitting, welding, and silver brazing on shipboard piping systems on all types of metals. Must possess knowledge and experience in the set up and operation of machines and tools to include : mig welder, tig welder, plasma arc cutter, gas cutter, carbon arc cutter, bandsaw, drill press etc. to cut and weld parts to specifications. Uses hand tools such as grinders, needle guns, clamps, fixtures, calipers, scribes, combination squares etc. Basic knowledge of weld theory to include the following processes : SMAW, GMAW, GTAW and / or Silver Brazing. Some basic knowledge of ferrous / non- ferrous metals and the ability to read / interpret blueprints required. May be assigned the duties and responsibilities of other positions for which qualifications are met. Periodically required to lift / move equipment up to and including 50 pounds.

• Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements

Our work is primarily onboard naval vessels that may include variables of physical activity, i.e. stooping, climbing, walking, etc.

In performing these duties, you may be required to work outdoors or in the warehouse. You will experience temperature variations, extremely loud noises, and other physical hazards.
