Job description

Under the general supervision of the Vice President of Direct Clinical Services, the Behavioral Health Clinician (Outpatient Children Services) will work with children, ages 6-21, who have serious emotional and behavioral health needs, their parents / caregivers and families.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Provides direct and indirect evidence-based therapeutic treatment services for children and families via the office or telehealth.
  • Aids families with accessing needed resources.
  • Provides referrals, as needed, and supports families with follow-up services.
  • Conducts assessments and develops treatment plans using a person-centered, solution-focused approach.
  • Provides individual, group, conjoint or family psychotherapy, case management, and support services.
  • Conducts integrated biopsychosocial assessments, determines provisional diagnoses, and participates in developing person / family centered youth guided treatment plans with children, youth and families.
  • Monitors the members' progress and coordinates appropriate behavioral health and other needed services.
  • Initiates and develops care coordination across multi-systems to prevent out of home placements and prompts reunification and permanency.
  • Maintains an electronic medical record which includes required documentation of services provided, progress notes, treatment plans, periodic reviews and member rights documents.
  • Collaborates with clinical staff to manage and resolve crisis situations involving children and parents.
  • Engages in ongoing learning and education.
  • Ensures compliance with productivity benchmarks and state requirements for outpatient services, based on the needs of the family as outlined in their Individualized Plan of Service.
  • Attends team and staff meetings.
  • Collaborates with the Chief Medical Officer / Psychiatrist of Direct Services.
  • Directs and coordinates medical activities and activities related to patient care.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA'S) :

  • Knowledge of DWIHN policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Knowledge of the DWIHN provider network and community resources.
  • Knowledge of the Michigan Mental Health Code.
  • Knowledge of MDHHS policies, rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Federal policies, rules, regulations, and procedures as it relates to DWIHN.
  • Knowledge of the LOCUS model & CAFAS model.
  • Knowledge of the clinical care process (screening, assessment, treatment planning, and continuing care).
  • Knowledge of and ability to use screening and assessment tools for behavioral health services.
  • Knowledge of adult and children's outpatient services.
  • Knowledge of specialized services for children with severe emotional disturbances and their families.
  • Knowledge of Integrated Care services for behavioral health members.
  • Knowledge of medical and behavioral health practices and terminology.
  • Knowledge of Medical Necessity Criteria for Behavioral Health Services.
  • Knowledge of the Federal Confidentiality Regulations, 42 CFR, Part 2.
  • Knowledge of Motivational Interviewing.
  • Knowledge of documents / regulations that govern the provision of mental health services, e.g., Medicaid Manual Mental Health and Substance Abuse Chapter III, State Plan for Medicaid, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Quality Plan, BBA requirements and the Mental Health Code.
  • Knowledge of the practices and principles of psychological, emotional, and sociological assessment and diagnosis.
  • Knowledge of crisis training and experience in de-escalation, i.e., suicide prevention, development of crisis plans, trauma informed care, etc.
  • Knowledge of diagnostics, psychopharmacology, and supportive treatment approaches
  • Knowledge of the identification and treatment of co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Knowledge of community mental health services and resources.
  • Knowledge of the DSM-IV Statistical Manual.
  • Knowledge of Individual Plans of Service (IPOS) for children and families.

  • REQUIRED EDUCATION :

    A Master's Degree from a recognized college or university in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field.

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE :

    Two (2) years of professional clinical experience in a behavioral healthcare or mental health setting including one (1) year of full-time paid experience working with children and families in a behavioral health or mental health setting.

    REQUIRED LICENSE(S).

    A Valid State of Michigan clinical licensure : LMSW , LPC, LLP or PhD.

    (A Limited License will be accepted)

    A valid State of Michigan Driver's License with a safe and acceptable driving record.

    Professional Children's Mental Health Professional (CMHP), per the Michigan PIHP / CMHSP Provider Qualifications per Medicaid Services

    WORKING CONDITIONS :

    Work is usually performed in both an office and outpatient setting and requires the employee to drive to different sites throughout Wayne County and the State of Michigan.

    Must be available to work varied hours, including evenings.

    Must be available on-call to respond to crisis situations.
