The Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center is seeking a dynamic and customer-focused Guest Services Clerk Cashier who is enthusiastic, detail-oriented, and committed to delivering exceptional service to every visitor to join our front-line team.
As a key member of our Guest Services team, you'll be the first point of contact for thousands of guests each yearhelping to turn a simple visit into a memorable adventure. If you love working with people, solving problems on the fly, and being part of something bigger, we want to hear from you!
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver exceptional customer service to guests and members, responding to inquiries via phone, email and in person.
- Operate a multi-line phone system to provide information about Aquarium events, programs, and services.
- Operate a two-way radio to coordinate with internal staff.
- Schedule and process group reservations for Aquarium visits, tours, boat trips, educational programs, and room bookings.
- Perform cashiering duties at the admissions desk on a rotating basis, including ticket sales, payment processing, balancing cash drawers, and preparing deposits.
- Lead, support and help train part-time admissions and lobby staff.
- Perform data entry, maintain membership database and accurate records.
- Run reports and track attendance and sales data.
- Resolve guest concerns in a professional and courteous manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the Guest Services team.
What We're Looking For
- A positive, can-do attitude and a passion for customer service.
- Ability to multitask and stay calm under pressure in a busy environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, especially when interacting with the public.
- Experience using computers and software for data entry, email communication, and scheduling; proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook) is a plus.
- Experience with cash handling, point-of-sale systems, and basic office equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying and communicating potential issues.
- Willingness to learn departmental procedures and contribute to a mission-driven team environment.
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts (including summer hours).
Schedule Details
- Standard shifts: 8:30 AM 5:00 PM (5 days/week, with 2 days off)
- Summer shifts: Rotate between 8:30 AM 5:00 PM and 9:00 AM 5:30 PM
- Must be available to work weekends and rotating holidays to be considered for employment.
