Job description

Cert Pharmacy Tech I

The Certified Pharmacy Technician I provides pharmaceutical services to the patient under the supervision of a pharmacist to the extent dictated by state and federal laws.

Duties / Responsibilities :

  • Exhibits adequate knowledge of drug nomenclature, dosage forms, storage requirements, pharmaceutical calculations, and pharmacy law.
  • Provides timely, efficient, and accurate drug preparation and delivery through the distribution system.
  • Exhibits skilled aseptic technique for the admixture or manufacture of sterile products.
  • Documents receipts of drug shipments to facilitate inventory control.
  • Performs pharmacy billing functions.
  • Reviews inventory and removes outdated drug products during monthly inspections of assigned pharmacy areas. Assists the pharmacist in monthly inspections of patient care areas.
  • Restocks patient care areas with designated drug products.
  • Documents workload activities as requested to support department managerial functions.
  • Assists with the department's educational programs, particularly for pharmacy technician students.

Education :

High school graduate or equivalent required. Vocational Certificate in Pharmacy Technology or related experience in pharmacy required.

Experience :

One year in pharmacy or practicums as provided by a vocational program preferred. Alternative training in an allied health field may be considered in lieu of experience or practicum.

Licensure / Certification :

Registration as a pharmacy technician with the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy required. Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or National Health Career Association required.
