Custodian (4 hrsday, year-round)

Muscatine Schools is hiring a part-time Custodian for Jefferson Elementary School. The schedule for this position can be 7 : 00am-11 : 00am or 8 : 00am-12 : 00pm nad will need to be set with your supervisor. A Custodians main responsibility is to keep the schools appearance clean and maintain a safe school environment that is in good working order. This position will be used to maintain Central and assist with paper delivery. This is a year-round preferred or highly desirable. All essential functions must be performed on-site. You must pass a WorkSteps Physical.

Starting pay for this position is $20.09 / hour. The candidate chosen for hire will be required to complete a background check Work Steps job-specific physical and training / onboarding with the HR Department and the Custodial Maintenance Department.

JOB REQUIREMENTS ANALYSIS

POSITION TITLE : Custodian

REPORTS TO : Custodial / Maintenance Supervisor and Building Principal

Normal Work Day : 4 hours. Shifts and days vary by building and by position

MAJOR DUTIES :

The function of the Custodians job is to keep the schools appearance clean safe and in good working order. Duties will vary by season grade level and activity usage but include and are not limited to :

DAILY DUTIES :

• Checks to ensure all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during hours of building occupancy.
• Raises the American flag at or before 8 : 00 a.m. and lowers it at or after 3 : 30 p.m. (practice varies by shift and school).
• Cleans classrooms and corridors as scheduled.
• Scrubs and disinfects rest room floors shower rooms where applicable and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains.
• Reports major repairs needed promptly according to the standard procedure of the department.
• Reports any damage to school property which would include any vandalism or break-ins according to the standard procedure of the department.
• Remains on school premises during paid hours except for lunch breaks.
• Shares responsibility for opening and closing of building (doors and windows secured lights off except those left on for safety). Custodians are to perform lock-downs along with other employees who are equally responsible for insuring the building is secure.
• Adjusts furniture periodically and as needed to meet student needs in the classroom.
• Cleans chalkboards and / or whiteboards as needed.

The following duties are examples of what is required of the Custodial / Maintenance department during the summer throughout the district though these duties may or may not occur each summer at each building :

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

The District requires knowledge of equipment and cleaning products used in cleaning building. The Custodian must attend orientation training and on-the-job preferred or highly desirable. Must pass a WorkSteps physical.

LOCATION : Assignment varies by position but a Custodian is required to assist in all District buildings as needed.

The employee in this position lifts / carries 55 lbs. occasionally 10 lbs. frequently and pushes with a maximum force of 50 employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision color vision and the ability to adjust focus while working with computers written materials reports etc.

The noise level in the work environment is usually position requires the commitment of professional working hours that may require the employee to extend beyond a typical 8 : 00a.m. to 4 : 00p.m. employee will frequently work in different areas of the building including in / at desks on or near the floor standing in movement while working indoors or outdoors. The employee will usually work in indoor temperatures but will work outdoors as duties require.
