    Reports To : Director of Equitable Student Programs Mentorship and Targeted Populations

    Stipend : Up to $5000 for the School Year

    Program Overview :

    The 10 Girls Initiative is a Tier 2 intervention within Boston Public Schools designed to address the academic and social-emotional disparities experienced by Black and Brown female students . The program aims to build self-efficacy belonging and academic engagement by providing culturally responsive mentorship and holistic support.

    Through structured experiences such as Rites of Passage Real Talk and Journey to Sisterhood students will engage in transformative practices that strengthen their identity resilience and leadership. The initiative also provides targeted support for students identified with chronic absenteeism through the BPS Early Warning Indicator platform .

    Position Overview :

    The Office of Teaching and Learning seeks dynamic and committed school-based educators or staff to serve as Lead Mentors for the 10 Girls Initiative. Lead Mentors play a pivotal role in guiding both students and school-based mentors through relationship-driven mentorship academic encouragement and cultural empowerment.

    Lead Mentors will act as a liaison between school mentors and Director coordinate community partnerships and help ensure that each participating school delivers impactful programming that fosters brotherhood growth and academic success for young men of color.

    What You Will Do As A Lead Mentor :

    • Co-Plan and co / facilitate boys / girls end of year convening.
    • Plan and co / facilitate monthly convenings with school based mentors.
    • Provide support to mentors as needed.
    • Maintain accurate attendance and rolling agendas for all convenings.
    • Seek out community based partners and other resources.
    • Collaborate with community partners in efforts to provide access to opportunities for mentees.
    • Key Responsibilities

      As a Lead Mentor

    • Co-plan and co-facilitate the end-of-year Boys / Girls Convening .
    • Plan and lead monthly mentor Cohort Connections to support school-based mentors in effective implementation.
    • Provide ongoing coaching and technical assistance to cohort of school mentors.
    • Maintain accurate attendance records agendas and documentation for Cohort connection meetings.
    • Identify and engage community-based partners to enhance student opportunities.
    • Collaborate across schools and departments to align mentoring practices with district equity goals.
    • As a School-Based Mentor

    • Collaborate with the 10 Boys mentoring team to refine best mentoring practices .
    • Conduct weekly mentoring sessions (1.52 hours) with assigned students.
    • Record attendance and progress data within the designated BPS platform.
    • Guide students in completing a culminating project to be presented at the programs conclusion.
    • Maintain consistent communication with teachers and families to support student progress.
    • Identify and connect students with additional support to reduce truancy or academic risk.
    • Design and lead enriching culturally relevant experiences such as field trips travel and creative projects.
    • Empower students to set short-term and long-term personal goals and celebrate their progress.
    • Qualifications

    • Proven leadership experience within or beyond the school community.
    • Demonstrated commitment to equity inclusion and the advancement of Black and Brown females .
    • Strong ability to build authentic culturally responsive relationships with students.
    • Minimum of three years of professional experience in education youth development or related urban settings.
    • Exceptional communication organization and collaboration skills .
    • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively exercising sound judgment and integrity.
    • Compensation

      Lead Mentors will receive a stipend of up to $5000 for their participation in the school year.
