Lifeguard
To work as a UNM Lifeguard you must maintain patron surveillance of the facility while enforcing rules and regulations effectively as directed by the University and State of New Mexico Environment Department. Must be able to : spot dangers and potential hazards to prevent serious injury or accident; control and report unruly behavior; maintain accurate detailed documentation of headcount, first aid practices and others; perform cleaning duties. Must act immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of an emergency. Must provide emergency care and treatment as a team as set by American Red Cross standards and procedures.
Exceeding the Red Cross standards, UNM lifeguards must be able to swim 500 yards in 10 minutes or less, swim with a 10-pound brick for 25 yards, and retrieve a 10-pound brick from 14 feet depth and tread with it on the surface for one minute. As a minimum qualification for this position : All UNM lifeguards must be certified in first aid, AED, oxygen, and lifeguarding for the professional rescuer through Red Cross.

Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
Must maintain Certification as Lifeguard by a recognized source of training.
CPR Certified.
May be required to submit immunization records for review for required vaccines and TB testing.
Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
Less than high school; at least 6 months of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Certification / Licensure : Current Certification as Lifeguard by a recognized source of training.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
