The Guidance Counselor at Fr. Gabriel Richard High School plays a crucial role in the educational, emotional and social advancement of our students. The Guidance Counselor's primary responsibility is to foster a supportive environment for the students and act as a point of synergy between students, parents, teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders to achieve a positive learning environment for the students.
Responsibilities :
- Provide academic counseling to students regarding course selection, graduation requirements, and academic progress.
- Assist with creation and review of four-year academic plans, ensuring alignment with college entrance and graduation requirements.
- Monitor student grades, attendance, and behavior data; identify students needing additional support and coordinate appropriate interventions.
- Offer short-term personal and social-emotional counseling, referring students to outside resources when necessary.
- Support students and families through the college and career exploration process.
- Maintain accurate student records, including counseling notes, academic plans, and documentation related to interventions and support services.
- Collaborate closely with teachers, administrators, campus ministry, and learning support staff to address student needs.
- Participate in student support team meetings and contribute to plans for students experiencing academic, behavioral, or social challenges.
- Communicate regularly with parents / guardians about student progress, concerns, and available support resources.
- Support orientation and transition programs for new and incoming students.
- Contribute to a positive, faith-filled school climate that reflects the Catholic mission and values of the school.
Qualifications :
A Master's Degree in School Counseling, Psychology, or a relevant field.State-required certification or licensure for School Counseling.Previous experience in counseling in a school setting is preferred.Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.Ability to counsel and educate students, especially in a group setting.Ability to collaborate with teachers, parents, and school administrators.Proficiency in maintaining accurate and complete student counseling records.Benefits :
