The Port of Stockton is seeking a Risk Manager to play a vital leadership role in protecting the Port’s people, property, and operations. Under the general direction of the Deputy Port Director, this role is responsible for the planning, implementation, and oversight of a comprehensive risk management program—covering insurance, claims, workplace safety, contract review and emergency management while ensuring business continuity.
Overview
- Lead Enterprise Risk Management (ERM)
- Develops and executes risk strategies aligned with Port goals and values. Uses critical thinking to anticipate potential risks and proactively recommend mitigation measures. Demonstrates strategic foresight and sound judgement.
- Oversee Insurance and Claims Programs
- Manages insurance coverage and renewals, ensures asset valuations are current, and handles liability claims from initiation through resolution. Balances attention to detail with big-picture thinking to secure the Port’s financial and operational interests. Exercises fairness and integrity in all claims management processes.
- Contract and Policy Review
- Collaborates with legal counsel and internal departments to ensure contracts include appropriate risk transfer and indemnity clauses. Displays assertiveness with diplomacy when recommending changes to protect the Port’s interests while maintaining strong working relationships.
- Occupational and Facility Safety
- Oversees occupational health and safety programs that comply with OSHA, Cal / OSHA, and Port policies. Conducts risk assessments, root-cause analyses, and cultivates a culture of safety.
- Leadership and Collaboration
- Serves as a trusted advisor across departments—building consensus, gaining buy-in, and encouraging shared responsibility for risk mitigation. Communicates with clarity, confidence, and empathy.
- Program Development and Reporting
- Establishes key performance indicators, maintains risk data dashboards, and prepares executive-level reports. Tracks claims, identifies trends, and recommends solutions to reduce losses. Uses strong analytical and problem-solving skills to turn data into actionable insights.
- Champion Organizational Change
- Acts as a change agent, recommending improvements to practices and guiding the Port through risk-related initiatives. Balances creativity and practicality, offering solutions that are both innovative and achievable.
