Job Title : Safety & Health Compliance Supervisor – Cargo Warehouse
Location : IAH

Reports To : Warehouse Manager / Operations Director
Job Summary :
The Safety & Health Compliance Supervisor is responsible for developing, implementing, and enforcing all workplace safety, health, and regulatory compliance initiatives in a fast-paced cargo warehouse environment. This role ensures compliance with OSHA , DOT , and other regulatory requirements while promoting a strong safety culture, reducing risk, and protecting employee health. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with forklift operations , warehouse safety protocols, and a deep understanding of federal and state occupational safety and health laws.
Key Responsibilities :
Safety & Health Compliance :
- Develop and maintain warehouse safety and health programs in compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, and state / local regulations.
- Lead initiatives to identify workplace safety and health hazards, including industrial hygiene, ergonomics, and chemical exposure risks.
- Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials (HAZMAT) in compliance with environmental and transportation laws.
- Monitor warehouse operations to ensure adherence to personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, equipment safety, and cargo handling protocols.
- Perform Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), create safety standard operating procedures (SOPs), and implement engineering and administrative controls.
- Maintain accurate and compliant safety and health records, including OSHA 300 logs, SDS documentation, incident reports, and training certifications.
Forklift & Equipment Safety :
Oversee and enforce all powered industrial truck (PIT) safety requirements per OSHA 1910.178, including forklift operator training, certification, and recertification .Conduct or coordinate forklift and equipment safety training for employees.Audit daily forklift inspections and monitor operator behavior to ensure safe and efficient use.Serve as a Forklift Safety Trainer or work with qualified external trainers as needed.Training & Auditing :
Design and deliver safety and health training programs for all warehouse personnel, including onboarding, annual refreshers, and OSHA-mandated topics (e.g., hazard communication, lockout / tagout, bloodborne pathogens).Conduct regular warehouse inspections, safety audits, and compliance reviews.Track, document, and follow up on all corrective actions related to inspections or incident investigations.Incident Management & Reporting :
Investigate all workplace incidents, injuries, and near-misses, performing root cause analysis and recommending corrective / preventive actions.Prepare required reports for OSHA, internal stakeholders, and insurance providers.Serve as the main liaison for safety-related regulatory inspections and audits.Culture & Continuous Improvement :
Promote a strong safety culture through daily engagement, employee participation, and recognition programs.Collaborate with warehouse, HR, and leadership teams to integrate safety and health into all operational activities.Stay up to date with regulatory changes and best practices in occupational safety and environmental health.Qualifications :
High School Diploma or GED required, Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Environmental Health, Logistics, or related field preferred.Minimum 3–5 years of safety and health experience in a cargo, warehouse, logistics, or industrial setting.OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Certification required.Forklift Safety Certification required ; Forklift Safety Trainer certification strongly preferred .Familiarity with federal / state OSHA regulations, DOT compliance, hazardous materials handling, and environmental health standards.Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and safety management systems (SMS or EHS platforms).Preferred Certifications (not required but advantageous) :
Certified Safety Professional (CSP)Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST)HAZWOPER 24 or 40-Hour CertificationFirst Aid / CPR / AED Instructor CertificationCertified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)Work Environment :
Warehouse environment with exposure to cargo handling equipment, varying temperatures, dust, and noise.Requires standing, walking, climbing, and lifting (up to 50 lbs.) regularly.PPE must be worn as required.Schedule :
Full-time, Monday–Friday, with occasional evenings, weekends, or emergency response duties as needed.Compensation & Benefits :
