General Summary :This position offers an exciting opportunity at a one-of-a-kind, cat-only sanctuary where you will work alongside a small, caring staff and over 100 volunteers to provide high quality, care for our feline residents while they await their forever homes. Our cats range from healthy, vibrant kittens to seniors and special needs cats with conditions like diabetes or paralysis. You will help provide these cats with high quality medical.
A Veterinarian is responsible for upholding the Tabby's Place Core Values and facilitating good communication between departments on matters that involve medical issues.
- Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Ensure sound veterinary medical practices.
- Follow sanctuary medical protocols and advise on the protocols.
- Ensure high-quality medical care for all patients, focusing on the identification, treatment, and prevention of health problems and on providing exceptional care
- Performing surgeries including but not limited to spays, neuters and dentals within Tabby's Place medical facility
- Consult with Medical Director, Supervising Veterinarian, and Veterinary Technicians on medical matters
- Provide after-hours support via phone consultations
- Help ensure Tabby's Place adheres to state regulations and organizational protocol regarding animal care and treatment

- Strong ability to work as part of a team and provide training as needed
- Educational Qualifications / Job Experience Requirements :
- Current license in the State of New Jersey to practice veterinary medicine
- DEA and NJ CDS licenses preferred
- Maintenance of malpractice insurance
- Five years of experience as a veterinarian
- Schedule :
- A Veterinarian works 8-10 hours a week to fulfill the duties of this job.
- Environment :
- Work takes place in the sanctuary, which houses 100+ cats
- Cats will be present in all areas of the sanctuary. These areas include accommodation for all normal bodily functions of cats
- A cat sanctuary involves care of sick and often terminally ill cats, so the Veterinarian must be willing to deal with emotional situations and attachment to resident cats
- Subject to cat bites and scratches
- Physical Requirements :
The duties of a Veterinarian require physical labor, including the ability to
- stoop, twist and stretch arms while handling (potentially fractious) cats, assisting in procedures and other duties
- pull, push and maneuver cleaning equipment
- carry objects up to 25 pounds in weight
- stand for extended periods of time (during surgeries and examinations)
