Heavy Truck & Equipment Technician I, II or Senior
The City of Plano is looking for innovative and knowledgeable people to join our team as a Heavy Truck & Equipment Technician in the Fleet & Equipment Services division of the Public Works Department.
Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
Methods of servicing, troubleshooting, diagnoses, and repair of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and computer component malfunctions of automobiles; light, medium, and heavy duty trucks, and construction equipment; Federal, State, and local environmental and inspection laws and regulations applicable to vehicle and equipment standards.
Communicating effectively verbally and in writing; using hand and power tools; operating computerized monitors, scanners, and analyzers; reading repair manuals and schematics; operating a computer terminal.
High school diploma or GED; completion of a technical or trade school program in automotive and heavy truck technology.
Three (3) years of experience in repair and service of automobiles, light, medium, and heavy duty trucks, and construction equipment with on-board computer components.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Class A-CDL or Class B-CDL within twelve months of hire; ability to obtain a Texas Department of Public Safety Inspection Certification within six (6) months; minimum of two (2) ASE certifications within one year (additional certifications may be required).
Conditions of Employment
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Must possess mobility to work in and around City automotive shop facilities and perform physical tasks including lifting up to 75 pounds with proper equipment, bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching. Work involves loud environments, varying temperatures, dust, and chemical hazards. Ability to work around machines and operate hand and power tools.
Senior, II, and I Variants
The Senior and II / I classifications share the same general duties with progressively higher experience expectations. The Senior Technician requires additional years of experience and certifications as specified in the job posting.
