Job description

Fleet Courier

The Fleet Courier job supports the Fleet Department by transporting vehicles and equipment, including radios, parts, and other equipment, for service, maintenance, and / or repair.

Primary duties and responsibilities include :

  • Providing customer service to city departments by transporting vehicles, repair parts, supplies, and equipment
  • Washing and fueling vehicles / equipment as needed
  • Inspecting vehicles / equipment for body damage while identifying other potential safety problems
  • Completing reports and maintaining records
  • May handle firearms and / or ammunition
  • Performing additional duties as assigned

Minimum qualifications and working conditions include :

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • 12 months of manual labor experience
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Commercial Driver's License (Preferred)
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, all levels of management including executive staff, citizens, and elected officials
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy
  • Working conditions include :

  • Essential personnel during local emergency or disaster declarations
  • Medium physical work requiring frequent lifting and carrying objects up to 50 pounds
  • Considerable walking and standing
  • Frequent pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, and stooping
  • Hand / foot coordination for vehicle operation
  • Vision to read and interpret written information
  • Speech communication, hearing, and listening for communication with employees and residents
  • Works both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Operates motorized vehicles, power-washers, compressors, and other tools as necessary.
