Description :

A Registered Nurse is responsible and accountable for performing the nursing process as a basis for patient care.

RNs provide direction and oversight to other licensed and non-licensed staff.

RNs show compassion to recipients of services, coworkers, and surrounding communities through integrity, stewardship, empowerment, the promotion of diversity, and professional excellence.

The Registered Nurse must demonstrate excellent customer service and have enthusiasm for the program and the organization.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities :

Assesses care needs and develops a plan of care in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team.

Continually reassesses the plan of care according to patient needs.

In collaboration with the physician, provides and coordinates nursing care.

Assists in teaching patients and families and provides milieu management.

Communicates with and educates patients and families / significant others in discharge and aftercare planning needs.

Provides a safe and secure environment for patients and staff.

Documents, reports, and verifies all necessary information according to established policies and procedures.

Monitors for and reports to physicians any potential risks to patient safety that could lead to adverse outcomes.

Creates a customer-friendly environment by following quality improvement standards.

Maintains professionalism and initiates positive relationships with coworkers and external customers.

Provides care in various clinical settings with diverse populations.

Identifies specific patient needs and implements patient-centered, compassionate care.

Functions as a clinical leader, delegating and coordinating staff assignments, and promoting staff development.

Responsible for the utilization and continued review of patient care protocols and standards of practice.

Provides input into process improvement.

Utilizes and promotes careful use of resources.

May be responsible for training direct care staff.

May be indirectly responsible for oversight of medication and physical health activities.

May be responsible for scheduling and staffing.

Responsible for upholding the mission and values of the organization.

Presents a professional image in appearance, attitudes, behaviors, time management, and communication skills.

Provides spiritual, emotional, social, mental, and physical support to patients.

In the residential setting, required to support and promote a recovery-focused environment.

Commits to demonstrating the model of care in hospital and residential areas.

Responsible for maintaining annual training and demonstrating competency in required training.

Performs other duties or functions as assigned.

May function as a charge nurse.
