Job descriptionPerform thorough histories, physical examinations, and neurological assessments. Order and interpret diagnostic tests, imaging studies, and laboratory results. Develop and implement patient-centered care plans in partnership with attending physicians and the oncology care team. Provide education, counseling, and support to patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, surgical outcomes, and long-term care. Collaborate with radiation oncology, medical oncology, neuro-oncology, radiology, and supportive care services to ensure seamless multidisciplinary coordination. Document all patient encounters in accordance with hospital and departmental standards. Participate in quality improvement, program development, and ongoing professional education initiatives within the neurosurgical oncology program. Job Description
The Department of Neurological Surgery at UPMC Shadyside is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our Neurosurgical Oncology team. This role is exclusively outpatient-based and will focus on the comprehensive care of patients with brain and spinal tumors, providing pre-operative, post-operative, and longitudinal follow-up care in collaboration with our neurosurgical oncology faculty and multidisciplinary team.

The Staff Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a Physician Assistant or Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner and a member of the care delivery team. The APP is responsible to set the standards for the level and quality of care. The APP has responsibility, authority, and accountability for the provision of care through supervision by and collaboration with a physician. The APP manages and provides patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through the application of independent judgment, communication, and collaboration with all team members. The role of the APP encompasses the beginnings of leadership, partnership, collaboration, and supervision. The APP establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients, and their families, to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care. The APP begins to demonstrate a commitment to the community and to their healthcare profession.
