Network Pharmacy Informatics Specialist
Job Description
Network Pharmacy Informatics Specialist is responsible for supporting and participating in the selection, implementation, and maintenance of pharmacy-based technology, including hardware, software, and development of training programs for staff. The technology involves expensive equipment with sophisticated software systems. The job requires maintenance and monitoring of controlled drug dispensing systems, which is a high-risk area for staff, patients, and the network organizations.
Many inpatient pharmacy systems interface with Epic and thus have a significant clinical impact, including special clinical alerts and medication error prevention. Changes to pharmacy systems directly affect and are affected by changes in Epic, so a good understanding of how these systems interface is of high importance. The specialist helps design how information is entered into the systems, develops reports for retrieval, and assists in the analysis of that information.
The specialist works independently with input from pharmacy management and pharmacy systems architects, and interacts with customers throughout the network, including other departments, nursing, and medical staff. Frequent contact with vendors is also necessary to coordinate the maintenance and repair of systems.
