Shriners Children's Southern California is seeking a fellowship-trained Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon to join our distinguished team. We are looking for a surgeon with specialized training and expertise in pediatric upper extremity or sports medicine, though all fellowship-trained pediatric orthopedic surgeons are encouraged to apply.
Position Highlights
Practice Environment : Ambulatory surgery center and clinic setting — no ER callHome call is limited to patient concerns on a 1-in-5 rotating basisWalk-in fracture and sports medicine clinic Monday-Friday, staffed by experienced APPsSurgical volume of 15-20 cases per week, with significant expected growthSchedule : 2 OR block days per week; 2 clinic days per week; 1 swing day per weekTeam & Support : 3 Anesthesiologists; 2 orthopedic residents on rotation; 5 APPs (3 in orthopedics, 2 in plastic surgery); 1 athletic trainer; 5+ pediatric orthopedic surgeonsThis position entails a 1.0 FTE commitment. Candidates can expect to receive an annual salary between $509,948-$926,226 commensurate with experience, training and departmental equity.
Responsibilities
Perform clinical assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and treatment planning for pediatric patients with orthopedic conditions including limb deformities, scoliosis, fractures, hip dysplasia, clubfoot, and other musculoskeletal disordersProvide surgical and non-surgical management based on current standards of care, evidence-based practices, and patient-specific considerationsParticipate in inpatient and / or outpatient care, including preoperative and postoperative management, consultations, and discharge planningPerform operative procedures in accordance with institutional protocols and safety standardsCollaborate with pediatricians, physiatrists, physical therapists, anesthesiologists, and other subspecialists in the coordinated care of patientsMaintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic health record system in compliance with legal, regulatory, and institutional requirementsParticipate in shared call coverage, hospital rounds, and trauma response as assignedContribute to departmental quality improvement, peer review, and clinical governance processesMay participate in medical education, research, and scholarly activities depending on institutional affiliation or department expectationsMaintain accountability for meeting established productivity benchmarks (e.g., wRVUs), quality metrics, and institutional performance standardsEnsure time is allocated in accordance with assigned clinical, surgical, administrative, and academic expectationsQualifications
Education
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical schoolCompletion of an ACGME-accredited residency in Orthopedic SurgeryCompletion of fellowship training in Pediatric Orthopedic SurgeryAdditional fellowship training in upper extremity / hand surgery or sports medicine preferred but not requiredExperience
1-3 years of post-fellowship or equivalent clinical experience in pediatric orthopedic surgery preferred; recent fellowship graduates will be considered based on training and clinical exposureCertification and Licenses
Board certification or eligibility in Orthopedic Surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS), with subspecialty certification in Pediatric Orthopedics requiredMust possess eligibility for active and unrestricted medical licensure in the state of practiceMust possess eligibility for active DEAMust possess Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS for HCP) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certificationCredentialing and privileging by the medical staff in accordance with hospital bylawsAdditional Knowledge and Skills
