JDG’s mission is to enable students to achieve academic, career, personal, and social success.
Position Summary
Identify, recruit, and instruct up to 60 students at risk of disconnection from middle school and of
dropping out of high school. Provide follow-up monitoring and transitional services, as needed,
through ninth grade.
This position reports to the Middle School Supervisor.
This position is full-time working 12 months per year and is classified as exempt.
Major Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and teach the JDG middle school curriculum to students
- Recruit students via various methods including referrals from school personnel, parents, and Advisory Committee
- Provide students with guidance, counseling, and support within appropriate limits
- Assist students with making a successful transition to high school
- Develop and maintain a pool of effective community support resources
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with school personnel
- Serve as liaison with school staff and social service agencies as needed
- Serve as advisor to JDG’s middle school association
- Create training opportunities through hands-on activities, audio-visuals, guest speakers, and workshops
- Assist with civic and social opportunities
- Participate in preparing and conducting an annual plan of activities
- Participate in JDG and school staff meetings and professional development activities
- Assume other responsibilities as assigned

Minimum of a bachelor’s degreeExperience with various computer applicationsAbility to organize and manage complex dutiesAbility to prepare & maintain accurate recordsAcceptable results from a criminal background checkAcceptable results from a tuberculosis (TB) testAcceptable results from JDG’s drug screeningAcceptable results from Delaware’s Child Protection RegistryAcceptable results from the National Sex Offender Registry PreferredPrevious experience working with at-risk youthPrevious classroom / education / teaching experienceKnowledge of child development issuesDegree major in education, social service, or counseling
