Job description

Government Affairs Intern

What you will be doing :

The Government Affairs Intern works collaboratively within a bipartisan, nonpartisan team of DC-based subject matter experts and federal lobbyists, as well as collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, to advance Premier's advocacy strategy. This position takes a broad approach to problem solving and developing an understanding of the federal legislative and regulatory process. The Government Affairs Intern will participate in policy development, required and approved educational opportunities, development of thought leadership content, drafting communications for internal and external stakeholders and learning about the various technologies and solutions Premier offers to its clients.

A key priority of the Government Affairs Intern is to assist with policy development related to issues of importance to Premier and its member alliance.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibility #1- 50%

Research complex issues and assist in development of policy responses and advocacy materials

Responsibility #2 - 20%

Engage with stakeholders, Premier members, and Capitol Hill offices

Responsibility #3 - 20%

Support policy communications functions

Responsibility #4 - 10%

Implement strategies for ongoing PAC and grassroots recruitment and engagement

Required Qualifications

Work Experience :

Years of Applicable Experience - 0 or more years

Education :

High School Diploma or GED (Required)

Skills :

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate complex content and adapt to various audiences.

Attention to detail and excellent organization skills.

Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills

Experience :

Previous experience in healthcare, business, or policy.

Demonstrated interest in healthcare performance improvement.

Demonstrated capability to lead and show value from their efforts.

Education :

Obtaining bachelor's or master's degree in healthcare administration, business, political science, journalism, etc.

Additional Job Requirements :

Remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time

Be adaptive and change priorities quickly; meet deadlines

Attention to detail

Operate computer programs and software

Ability to communicate effectively with audiences in person and in electronic formats .

Day-to-day contact with others (co-workers and / or the public)

Making independent decisions

Ability to work in a collaborative business environment in close quarters with peers and varying interruptions

Working Conditions : Air conditioned office space

Travel Requirements : No travel required

Physical Demands : Sedentary : Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and / or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves remaining stationary most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if movement is required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Premier's compensation philosophy is to ensure that compensation is reasonable, equitable, and competitive in order to attract and retain talented and highly skilled employees. Premier's internal salary range for this role is $52,000 - $78,000. Final salary is dependent upon several market factors including, but not limited to, departmental budgets, internal equity, education, unique skills / experience, and geographic location. Premier utilizes a wide-range salary structure to allow base salary flexibility within our ranges.
