Critical Care RN – Role Overview\n\nCritical Care Registered Nurses provide specialized care to patients experiencing life-threatening medical conditions such as heart attacks, strokes, shock, severe trauma, respiratory distress, and other critical illnesses.\n\nPrimary Responsibilities : \n\n

Assess patient conditions and develop / implement individualized care plans\n

Treat wounds and provide advanced life support\n

Assist physicians during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures\n

Observe, document, and interpret patient vital signs\n

Ensure proper operation of ventilators, monitors, IABP, and other medical equipment; adjust settings as needed\n

Administer IV fluids, medications, and manage complex drips\n

Perform airway management, including suctioning\n

Collaborate with interdisciplinary members of the critical care team\n

Respond to emergency, life-saving situations following established nursing protocols\n

Function as a patient advocate\n

Educate and support patient families\n

Provide care for pre- and post-operative critical patients\n

Some critical care nurses may also serve as case managers, policy developers, or take on administrative roles\n\nFacility Requirements\n\n

Must have recent LTACH experience, including trach and vent management\n

Required Certifications : AHA BLS and AHA ACLS (must be attached at submission)\n
