Donation Center Manager
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Introduction
TEAM serves the Tomball community by representing its member churches to serve as a safety net for those in financial crisis. TEAM’s Resale Shop supports its Assistance Ministry by supplying the revenue to cover TEAM operating expenses, allowing cash donations to go directly to client assistance. TEAM’s Resale Shop management insures its proper operation and the outworking of strategies that improve Shop revenues to cover additional expenses and capital expenditures. The Donation Center Manager reports to the Resale Shop Manager and oversees the reception, sorting and cleaning of donated merchandise for sale on the showroom floor. This Manager is one of only a few paid personnel and so must provide a welcoming environment for the numerous volunteers that will carry out the duties of TEAM’s Donation Center. The job duties outlined below are a starting point of expectation. A growing organization will naturally require an evolution of job duties as the needs of the organization change over time.
General Requirements for Donation Center Manager
- Has a business acumen : understands retail ambience, product presentation, customer service, competitive pricing, discounting and similar business concepts.
- Understands the importance of and how to develop processes and procedures for the efficient operation of the Donation Center.
- Has a strong work ethic : pursues excellence while on the job, understands the concept of continuous improvement, is able to work independently and works well in a team setting.
- Is able to manage people : giving direction and training including repetitive instruction; able to work with volunteers, to quickly evaluate skills and slot personnel into appropriate roles to accomplish the goals of the organization.
- Is physically able to move large pieces of furniture and other heavy items while performing pick-ups, receiving donated items, and moving merchandise to and from the sales floor.
- Is able to take on the responsibilities of other Resale management to share duties and cover for each other.
- Works five days each week (excepting holidays and PTO), specific days to be determined by Resale Shop Manager. Typical hours are 9 : 00AM – 5 : 30PM with a 30-minute lunch break. The typical work week will be 37.5-40 / hours.
Specific Requirements for Donation Center Manager
Management of Donated Items
Oversee reception of all donated merchandiseRespond to donor requests for merchandise pick-up – leading the arrangement for TEAM box truck serviceOversee merchandise Donor Relations – friendly interaction with donors that includes a kind “thank you” and offering a receipt for the donationSort merchandise into product categories; clean merchandise in preparation for pricing and placementManage the efficiency, placement, and rotation of warehoused merchandiseMake sure tools and supplies necessary to accomplish all duties are available; request replenishment in a timely mannerWork with Resale Shop management team to develop, implement, and improve Donation Center processes; maximize the use of Donation Center spaceImplementation of Merchandising Strategy
Placement on sales floor of merchandise for product categories as assigned by Resale Shop Manager while following merchandise presentation guidelinesPricing merchandise in specific product categories as assigned by Resale Shop Manager, according to pricing strategy and guidelines for those produce categoriesFacility Maintenance and Cleaning
Uphold TEAM standards of cleanliness, presentation, and repairCleanup of TEAM facility, inside and outsideScheduled maintenance of TEAM facilityFacility preparation for inclement weatherScheduled maintenance and repairs of TEAM box truckVolunteer Management
Training for and oversight of performance of duties; includes directing, working with, modeling, and repetitive teaching of work processes to volunteers along with accountability follow-upUnderstand the requirements for carrying out the duties of the Donation Center, the types and numbers of personnel needed to perform these duties; identify the specific skill sets of volunteers and assign duties accordingly; work with Shop Manager and Assistant Manager to determine types and number of volunteers needed to accomplish the goals of the Donation CenterResale Shop Management
The Donations Center Manager will be crossed-trained to know the general workings of the Resale Shop; this will include management of sales floor volunteers, overall product merchandising and pricing, sales floor customer service guidelines, performing the check-out function, and other relevant functions on the sales floor.
