Job description

OVERVIEW

To coordinate and monitor the involvement of parents in the education of their children; to serve as a liaison between parents, school and community to promote a welcoming environment; and to provide services to parents and school personnel to facilitate increased student performance.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School education or equivalent required
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred
  • Computer proficiency to include use of basic software applications (Word, Excel, Google Apps, PowerPoint, etc)
  • Basic knowledge of current educational academic standards
  • Ability to confidently create and present information to adult learners
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, take initiative and work independently with minimum supervision
  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) with parents / guardians, district personnel at all levels and outside agencies
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with parents / guardians, district personnel at all levels and outside agencies
  • Ability to maintain organized, comprehensive records for reporting purposes
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible and evening hours as needed
  • Possess and utilize group leadership skills to organize parental involvement activities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Coordinate and facilitate family literacy trainings / classes and promote class participation
  • Collaborate with teachers and Title I Specialist to provide parent education relevant to student learning
  • Build awareness of parental involvement at national, state and local levels and share their resources with school community;
  • Connect parents to leadership and volunteer opportunities
  • Serve as a liaison between school personnel, parents / guardians, school community and the Title I and Community Education departments
  • Serve as a member of Title I Committee / SIAC to help analyze, develop, and implement the School Continuous Improvement Plan
  • Attend district meetings and trainings as required
  • Compile and maintain information on the school website with resources and activities affecting parental involvement
  • Regular and on-time attendance required
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
