Care Practitioner who is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and evaluating respiratory care given by the designated healthcare team. The Department Manager has twenty-four hour responsibility for the service standards, staff, leadership, decision-making, fiscal guidelines, and department relationship. The Department Manager fosters a supportive, professional environment for physicians, staff, and patients. The Department Manager is dedicated to Performance Improvement. This position will have oversight of all respiratory services in the hospital and diagnostic procedures as applicable

Demonstrates knowledge and clinical expertise in performing cardiopulmonary related tests, procedures, and treatments prescribed by physician. Demonstrates an understanding of specific needs of specific age groups as it relates to equipment choices and therapeutic delivery techniques.Incorporates current clinical trends into practice. Generates reviews and revises Respiratory Care Procedures and Protocols.Maintains responsibility for activities (formal and informal) related to evaluation of employee performance, (i.e. commendations, corrective action, and performance appraisals.) Communication is appropriate, timely and effective.Identifies issues to be addressed at department level. Takes appropriate action, and refers appropriate departmental operational issues utilizing the appropriate chain-of-command.Supports and interprets institutional and departmental goals and objectives to the interdisciplinary health care team and Respiratory Care personnel. Assists employees to make performance objectives consistent with departmental objectives and evaluates progress toward annual performance goals.Submits recommendations for capital and operational budget planning. Evaluates existing and new products in efforts of maintaining progressive modalities of care.Schedules appropriate number of personnel through management of employee vacations, leaves of absence and sick leave. Maintains accountability for assignments, meal times and breaks.Promotes departmental strength through cross training, education, and the development of employee leadership skills. Also provides instructional needs to various departments or programs.Insures employee compliance toward departmental policies by means of auditing, remediation and in-service, including corrective action.Accountable for creating an environment that promotes clinical excellence. Establishes standards of care for the service with input from the coordinators, shift supervisors and staff. Defines and communicates standards to staff members. Reviews, develops, and revises policies and procedures. Monitors compliance to established standards. Promotes responsibility and accountability for quality. Uses an ethical decision-making process. Incorporates inter-disciplinary philosophy in developing care systems.Accountable for coordination and collaboration with other departments to collectively achieve the best possible care for our patients. The goal of patient focused care as a top priority should exist for all personnel involved in direct patient care.Assists the director with the following. Accountable for planning service’s fiscal needs. Develops a detailed, operational plan. Assigns responsibilities to meet budgeted guidelines. Monitors all fiscal aspects to function in the most cost effective manner possible. Shows flexibility to modify goals as needed. Provides input for capital budget or physical plan as needed.Accountable for developing staff. Interviews and hires to meet budgeted plan. Evaluates in-service and educational needs and provides as needed. Communicates information. Develops the service management team.Accountable for leadership. Motivates staff by sharing ideas and values. Fosters self esteem. Delegates responsibilities. Trains staff to function independently. Remains open to suggestions and feedback. Follows up to see that plans are implemented. Provides leadership in redesign of health care systems. Promotes collaboration of management in Performance Improvement.
