About the Role
The Sr. Tax Manager, High Net Worth & Retail, serves as a trusted advisor to high‑net‑worth individuals and closely held businesses, providing tax planning, compliance, and strategic guidance. The role also reviews and signs off on complex individual, corporate (C & S corp), partnership, fiduciary, and multistate tax returns.
Responsibilities
- Manage and mentor a team of tax professionals, providing technical support, coaching, and quality control.
- Lead tax research on complex issues such as entity structuring, estate and trust planning, income splitting strategies, and investment tax optimization.
- Oversee IRS and State audit representation and resolution for clients, ensuring accurate and timely handling of inquiries.
- Collaborate with internal accounting and advisory teams to deliver cohesive client service across bookkeeping, business valuations, and financial planning.
- Proactively identify planning opportunities, risks, and efficiencies for clients using up‑to‑date knowledge of federal and California tax codes.
- Establish strong client relationships through regular communication, annual planning meetings, and timely response to inquiries.
- Support business development efforts by contributing to client proposals and participating in firm growth initiatives.
Qualifications
CPA designation (active and in good standing in California) required.Minimum 7+ years of progressive public accounting experience with a strong focus on high‑net‑worth individual and closely held business taxation.Demonstrated ability to manage complex tax engagements with minimal oversight.Excellent knowledge of federal and multistate tax laws, especially as they pertain to flow‑through entities, estates / trusts, and high‑income earners.Experience with tax software such as Lacerte, UltraTax, or similar platforms.Strong leadership, project management, and communication skills.Ability to build trust and maintain client confidentiality in a fast‑paced, client‑first environment.Required Skills
