Description

Wellness Equity Alliance (WEA) is a novel national public health organization comprised of a multidisciplinary team of population and public health experts with backgrounds in infectious disease, public health, emergency medicine, primary care, cardiology, pediatrics, psychiatry, community health work (CHW), nursing and advanced practice pharmacy. We work nearly exclusively with underrepresented communities, fundamentally addressing health-care disparities and the social determinants of health (SDoH) that have been amplified during the COVID-19 pandemic, prioritizing the following:

  • People experiencing homelessness
  • Indigenous communities
  • Immigrant communities
  • Rural communities
  • BIPoC communities
  • LGBTQIA+ communities
  • Justice-impacted communities
The WEA team is diverse, inclusive, and nimble enough to assemble teams of healthcare professionals within days using our proven local staff recruitment models to address population health crises and communicable disease outbreaks. The WEA team's partnership model is collaborative and allows hospitals, health jurisdictions, state/local government agencies to provide timely care using equity-based strategies for individuals and marginalized communities.

Position Location & Service Delivery

This position is based in California, with service locations primarily in Los Angeles County and the Coachella Valley. The role will follow a hybrid model, combining in-person visits and telehealth-based follow-up care.

We are seeking a California-licensed psychiatrist who can:
  • Provide in-person psychiatric evaluations and medication consultations once or twice per month in LA County and/or Coachella Valley.
  • Deliver ongoing follow-up care and medication management of mental health and substance use disorders via telehealth, maintaining continuity and accessibility for clients.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with at-risk and underserved populations, including individuals experiencing homelessness, justice-involved clients, and youth and families in crisis. Experience or openness to street medicine environments, mobile units, and non-traditional clinical settings is highly valued.

This position is part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team committed to trauma-informed, culturally responsive care.

Purpose of the position

Wellness Equity Alliance seeks a full-time, board-certified psychiatrist licensed in California to provide behavioral health services in a street psychiatry clinic.

This unique and meaningful position offers the opportunity to serve vulnerable populations and support clinical growth and service excellence within a trauma-informed, culturally responsive framework.

Psychiatrist Responsibilities:
  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations and assessments of patients to determine appropriate treatment plans
  • Review patient's medical history and collect additional information from other providers and external agencies (e.g,. social services, housing agencies, criminal legal system, insurance company, health care providers)
  • Provide psychiatric treatment to patients using evidence-based practices, including initiation and management of psychopharmacological interventions
  • Facilitate treatment engagement and behavior change
  • Provide crisis intervention when needed
  • Monitor and track patient progress, adjusting treatment plans as needed
  • Administer, Score, and Analyze Psychiatric Tests
  • Coordinate with external healthcare professionals and external agencies (e.g., social services, housing agencies, criminal legal system, insurance company, health care providers)
  • Collaborate with therapists, community health care workers, primary care providers, and external healthcare providers to facilitate comprehensive patient care.
  • When needed, provide indirect consultation to the patient's primary care provider, therapist, and community health care workers.
  • If needed, supervise PMHNP providers.
  • When indicated, provide psychoeducation and medication teaching to patients, family members, and external agencies.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare providers.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of patient care
  • Participate in peer supervision and professional development activities
  • Keep up-to-date with professional job knowledge by reading publications, attending educational conferences, or maintaining professional networks.
  • Follow ethical and legal policies, procedures, and standards.
Requirements

Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Degree from an accredited institution
  • Board certification
  • Active and unrestricted license to practice in California
  • DEA
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
  • Experience providing psychiatric treatment to patients
  • Experience providing psychiatric treatment to patients
  • Strong knowledge of evidence-based psychiatric practices
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • A proactive approach with a strong work ethic and desire to participate in a collaborative environment.
  • A commitment to high-quality, cost-effective health care.
  • Comfortable using electronic medical records
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain medical terms and conditions to a non-medical audience
  • Strong observation skills to accurately evaluate patients demeanor and identify symptoms
  • A great bedside manner and the ability to remain calm, empathetic and patient while interacting with patients who suffer from severe mental disorders
  • Thoughtful and compassionate
  • Preferred - Fellowship in Addiction medicine/psychiatry, familiarity with homeless outreach programs, familiarity with enhanced case management programs.


Salary Description

$235,000 to $290,000 per year
