Graduate of an accredited School of Practical Nursing with a current good standing Tennessee Practical Nursing License or other legal credential required
Current certification in CPR BLS for Healthcare Provider
3 years of nursing experience (pediatric experience is a plus)
Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
Critical thinking skills
Overseeing medication administration, health care procedures, and the development of healthcare plans
Overseeing vision, hearing, body mass index, and mental health screening procedures
Proficiency in enteral feedings, catheterizations, and diabetic monitoring preferred
Physical ability to endure extended periods of standing, walking, running, sitting and / or stair climbing. Ability to push / lift / carry up to 40 pounds.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel preferred
Ability to communicate with teachers / parents / children

Performance Responsibilities :
Conducts school programs of immunization, physical examinations, sight and hearing testing as directed by Health Services .
Observes students on a regular basis to detect health needs.
Instructs teachers on screening students for health defects.
Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students.
Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on student health matters.
Assumes authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered an injury or emergency illness.
Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures.
Implements Board policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.
Participates in in-service training programs.
Assists school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools.
Performs job duties under the supervision of Registered Nurse.
Perform responsibilities according to the Nurse Practice Act and Roane County Schools Policy and Procedure Manual.
