Reports To : Tool Room Manager

Job Purpose

The Tool & Die Maker is responsible for producing high-precision tooling using various equipment, including surface grinders, CNC machines, and mills. This position requires expertise in crafting complex angles and radii to support the manufacturing of tight-tolerance parts while maintaining high standards of quality and productivity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following key responsibilities outline the expectations for this role and support both departmental objectives and the company’s commitment to delivering high-quality products :

  • Maintain all tooling and sensor equipment in proper working condition.
  • Implement tooling improvements as directed by engineering and support departments.
  • Ensure all tooling is safe and production-ready before it leaves the Tool Room.
  • Follow all safety protocols, operate equipment properly, and promptly report unsafe conditions.
  • Identify and resolve problems efficiently by gathering data, analyzing information, and proposing effective alternatives.
  • Proactively seek opportunities to improve product quality, demonstrate accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Troubleshoot and repair machine tools, fixtures, dies, and related components.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, CAD files, and production specifications accurately.
  • Train and mentor team members on technical tasks and job responsibilities.

Requirements :

Education and Experience :

  • Proven ability to perform tasks accurately and thoroughly.
  • Strong organizational skills and a methodical approach to work.
  • Completion of a state- or federally-accredited apprenticeship program and possession of a journeyman card, or a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficient in interpreting 2D prints and 3D CAD designs to convert concepts into finished products using raw materials.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Versatile machining experience, including proficiency with mills, lathes, drill presses, grinders, and hand tools.
  • Ownership of personal die-making and machinist tools.
  • Experience in building and testing progressive dies.
  • Team-oriented, adaptable, and receptive to changes in direction.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Capable of making sound decisions based on company guidelines and procedures.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a goal-oriented mindset.
  • Welding skills are a plus.

    • Physical Requirements

  • Ability to bend, twist, reach, sit, stand, and walk throughout the workday.
  • Able to walk on level surfaces for extended periods.
  • Must maintain consistent mental and visual focus while working with tools and on computers.
  • Ability to lift machine components weighing up to 50 lbs.

    • Language Requirements

  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and understanding English is required.

    • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • Safety glasses must always be worn in manufacturing areas.
  • Hearing protection is required in designated zones.
  • Arm sleeves or a long-sleeved shirt in designated zones.

    • Work Environment

  • Work is primarily performed in a manufacturing setting. Appropriate safety gear must be worn as needed
