Job Summary
Canadian Standards Association (CSA Group) is seeking an experienced Product Safety Engineer, Medical Devices in its Irvine, CA office. The role reports to the Product Group Managers and offers growth potential for a systematic, process-oriented individual who can see the big picture while attending to detail. The position supports safety certification of new and leading-edge products, systems and technologies based on CSA Group standards and other recognized standards development organizations.
As medical equipment technology evolves, there is increased use of electronic equipment across professional healthcare facilities, hospitals, clinics and home environments. The understanding and application of risk management are crucial to the design concept and safety certification process.
Responsibilities
- Independently manage certification projects concurrently, ensuring compliance with applicable safety requirements within time frames and budgets. Evaluate products against national / international standards and precedents.
 - Demonstrate technical competency to review the work of others and to apply certification program requirements.
 - Evaluate and review complex, unique, or unusual product types accurately.
 - Manage multiple projects concurrently, maintaining on-time and on-budget performance.
 - Review test data, reports and authorize application of Certification Marks. Prepare or sign Certification Reports and Certificates of Compliance.
 - Conduct construction evaluation to ensure compliance with the construction section of the standard, identifying rationale for compliance or non-compliance.
 - Collaborate with Lab Technicians to create work orders specifying required tests, order of tests, and number of samples.
 
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with 6+ years of related experience; or Degree / Diploma in Engineering Technology or related technical field with 8+ years of experience.Experience
Thorough knowledge of standards and testing procedures.Knowledge of CSA, UL and IEC standards (e.g., 60601 and 61010).Thorough knowledge of CSA certification options, programs and services applicable to a variety of equipment.Skills
High level of interpersonal and communication skills; strong customer service orientation.Excellent organizational, time and project management skills; ability to work independently and in a team.Ability to read, interpret and develop engineering drawings; computer proficiency (Microsoft Office).Experience with laboratory equipment and testing tools; ability to work under tight schedules in a team environment.Ability to see both the big picture and the details; deliver complex projects on time and implement new processes to improve results.Demonstrated ability to work across institutional, cultural and geographic boundaries, delivering on complex initiatives while simplifying processes.Strong alignment with CSA Group values, mission, and culture.Compensation & Diversity
The typical hiring range for this position is $86,000 – $114,000, and CSA Group reserves the right to consider flexibility outside of the stated range based on education, licenses, certifications and / or experience.
