Under the general supervision of the Campus Services Manager, the Shuttle Bus Transportation Driver is responsible for ensuring the safety and welfare of passengers during bus transportation to and from Waubonsee Community College campuses. The Driver also ensures that the vehicle is clean and in proper working condition at all times, determines and follows safe and efficient routes, ensures all passengers are using required safety restraints, and complies with traffic and applicable State, local and federal laws. The Driver maintains all required transportation records and promptly reports any unsafe conditions to the Campus Services Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure the safety and welfare of passengers being transported to and from college campuses.
Complete a comprehensive written inspection of the transportation vehicle daily, reporting any issues to the supervisor or delegated staff person, before transporting passengers.
Ensure that the communication devices (e.g., two-way radio, cellular phone) are in proper working order before each trip.
Arrange for and ensure the completion of routine maintenance on transportation vehicles (e.g., oil change); transport vehicles to and from maintenance or repair facilities as needed.
Maintain sufficient fuel levels at all times.
Operate the transportation vehicle in full compliance with all road and safety regulations; report any traffic violations to the supervisor immediately.
Keep the vehicle clean and free of debris; follow established cleaning procedures.
Routinely inventory emergency and first aid supplies and equipment, report needs to the supervisor, or delegated staff person.
In case of accidents / emergencies, evacuates passengers according to written and practiced procedures.
In the event of an accident, ensure that medical emergency procedures are followed and complete a written accident report as required by college policy and other authorities.
Attends and participates in required college trainings and professional development opportunities.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous bus driver experience preferred.
Valid Illinois Driver's License. CDL (Commercial Driver's License, Class B or A) with Passenger (P) or School Bus endorsement preferred.
Safe, defensive driving practices.
Knowledge of Illinois Motor Vehicle Code applicable to the operation of vehicles in public transportation.
Basic maintenance of transit vehicles and related equipment.

Operating a transit vehicle safely.
Maintaining order among passengers on a bus.
Good customer service skills
Understanding and implementing verbal and written instructions
Proper use of two-way radio system.
Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers.
Ability to sit or remain stationary for extended periods.
Mobility and strength to occasionally assist passengers weighing up to 150 pounds.
Ability to board, secure, and unload passengers using wheelchairs or mobility devices.
Manual dexterity to operate the vehicle.
Vision to read printed and handwritten materials.
Hearing and speech to communicate effectively in person and by telephone / radio.
Willingness and ability to work in varying weather conditions and exposure to vehicular traffic, noise, and fumes.
Ability and willingness to work with individuals from diverse cultural, physical, behavioral, and environmental backgrounds.

Work Schedule : Spring Semester M-Th 6 : 45am-10 : 45am &10 : 45am - 2 : 45pm (2 shifts each day) based on class schedules.
