Electrical Designer
Join Point Eight Power as an Electrical Designer. This role leads the development of complete electrical design packages—including schematics, layouts, and bills of materials—meeting manufacturing, regulatory, and client requirements.
Base pay range
$46,000.00 / yr – $70,000.00 / yr
Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver complete electrical design packages (schematics, wiring diagrams, layouts, and BOMs) for low- and medium-voltage control equipment.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable standards (IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, UL) and client specifications.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, mechanical engineering, and field service teams to resolve design challenges and improve reliability.
- Lead client-facing communication on technical issues, ensuring requirements are met and solutions are delivered professionally and on time.
- Partner with estimators to provide design input on job size, configurations, and feasibility to support accurate project quotes.
- Build and maintain strong vendor relationships to research materials, evaluate new technologies, and develop design symbols.
- Provide technical support during production and client witness testing; troubleshoot wiring and control issues when needed.
- Mentor junior designers and engineers, supporting continuous improvement of design standards, tools, and processes.
- Drive innovation by contributing to new product development and improvement projects.
What We're Looking For
Education / Certifications
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred) or equivalent technical training / experience.High School Diploma / GED (required).Experience
5+ years of electrical design experience in switchgear and power distribution.Experience with marine, oil & gas, or energy sector projects (preferred).3+ years of experience in industrial control systems (preferred).Understanding of generator controls, protective relays, short-circuit / coordination studies, and complex system integration.Technical Skills
Proficiency in design software : AutoCAD, PromisE, and related electrical CAD tools.Ability to read and understand client-supplied job specifications and one-line diagrams to create design criteria for project development.Strong knowledge of applicable electrical standards (IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, UL).Familiarity with ERP / PLM systems and Microsoft Office.Professional Skills
Advanced problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.Ability to work on fast-paced / short-turnaround projects.Strong judgment and decision-making skills with an emphasis on cost, safety, and quality.Excellent written and verbal communication; able to prepare technical documentation and present to internal teams and clients.Demonstrated ability to work independently while also leading cross-functional collaboration.Commitment to mentoring and developing junior team members.Benefits
