Job description

Ultimate Staffing's client is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician (HVAC) to join their facilities team. This intermediate-level role focuses on maintenance, repair, and operation of HVAC, refrigeration, and mechanical systems within a large, multi-facility environment. The technician will perform preventative maintenance, system troubleshooting, and occasional general building repairs to ensure safe, efficient, and comfortable operations.

This position reports to a Facilities Manager and may occasionally guide or assist other maintenance personnel.

Key Responsibilities

Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on HVAC systems including air handlers, VAV boxes, fan coil units, unit heaters, circulating pumps, exhaust fans, and make-up air units.

Diagnose and repair refrigeration systems, air-conditioning units, and related electrical / mechanical components.

Replace filters, belts, and lubricate moving parts as part of scheduled maintenance routines.

Conduct building inspections to ensure compliance with safety and sanitary standards.

Operate equipment such as forklifts, trucks, vans, and tractors as needed.

Assist in the installation of new HVAC equipment and small appliances (refrigerators, ice machines, etc.).

Monitor and operate building energy management systems, performing troubleshooting and scheduling as required.

Coordinate with vendors and contractors on facility maintenance and improvement projects.

Provide event coverage and facility support during large-scale events as needed.

Maintain accurate electronic timekeeping and work order documentation.

Qualifications & Competencies

High school diploma or GED required; vocational or technical school training in Building Maintenance or related field preferred.

Minimum of five years of experience in maintenance trades, with at least three years in HVAC or HVAC-R.

Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, tools, and trade practices including refrigeration, ventilation, and steam fitting.

Ability to read and follow instructions, estimate time and materials, and prepare clear reports.

Demonstrated skill in troubleshooting and maintaining mechanical and electrical systems.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.

Physical & Work Environment

Work may be performed both indoors and outdoors, including environments with extreme temperatures.

Requires lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders, and working at heights or in confined spaces.

Must be available for emergency call-outs, extended hours, evenings, and weekends as required.

Licenses & Certifications

Valid Maryland driver's license (required).

Current State of Maryland HVAC Apprentice or Journeyman License (or enrollment / completion of an accredited certification program).

Current refrigerant recovery certification.

Forklift certification (or ability to obtain).
