Your Opportunity

As part of our Engineering team, you would serve as the resource for all facility related infrastructure needs including but not limited the following systems : Electrical, Refrigeration, Steam, Compressed Air, Fire Protection, and Rendering. You will be instrumental to the manufacturing of Smithfield, Eckrich, Nathan’s Famous, and our other product brands, to meet the needs of our customers and consumers.

Core Responsibilities

Identify and implement solutions to critical operational issues of Facility Utilities Systems

Assess and optimize operations of Utilities Systems to support facilities’ teams.

Engage external professional engineering resources to ensure quality and effective engineering design for project development.

Develop Engineering Reports and Matrix Data Base for Facility Infrastructure Assets

Will work closely with other engineering team members to manage (Lead) and develop their skills and knowledge.

Manage the “Excellence in Engineering” efforts for engagement and compliance.

Mentor entry level engineers (Career Foundation Program)

Works with facilities in developing short and long-term facility maintenance plans.

Responsible for developing and providing full risk analysis of facilities.

Supports all US Fresh and Packaged Meat Facilities and associated teams as required.

Engage professional refrigeration engineering resources during the design and development of projects.

Determines scope of work, prepares requests for proposals and evaluates proposals.

Assist with the planning and budgeting process for various engineering improvement projects, meeting project expectations and time requirements.

Conducts audits on project performance and sustainability initiatives.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Engineering or related field and 5+ years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management / development or project leadership is required.

Knowledge of Industrial Ammonia Refrigeration

Knowledge of Electrical Power Distribution.

Strong reading, math, writing, analytical skills required.

Possess a theoretical understanding of Facility Utilities Systems and can apply that knowledge to the roles and responsibilities of the position.

Ability to apply sound engineering principles to operational and design issues.

Proficient in AutoCAD drawing skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Excel spreadsheet software and Word processing software, other Microsoft Suite products.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational planning, analytical reasoning, and adaptability.

Must be able to travel up to 50% of the time.

Perform assigned tasks efficiently with minimum supervision.

Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.

Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position may lead a team of engineers and will provide training and guidance to personnel across the organization.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

Office and plant setting. The plant environment will include wet or humid conditions (non-weather related), extreme cold and heat (non-weather related), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals.

Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when in the production area.

Occasionally lift and / or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision includes close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Must be able to work at elevated heights.

Frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.
