Position : Vice President of Operations, You Move Me
Location : Lenexa, KS (On-Site)
Salary Range : $125,000 - $150,000 base salary with Performance Bonus Opportunity
Position Overview The Vice President of Operations is a senior executive responsible for overseeing all operational aspects of the company, including over-the-road transportation, local operations, business coaching, and strategic operational initiatives. This role combines hands-on operational management with executive leadership, driving performance across multiple locations while ensuring efficient, safe, and profitable delivery of household goods and commercial shipments. The VP of Operations will lead, coach, and develop operational teams while maintaining regulatory compliance and achieving financial targets.
Key Responsibilities :
Strategic Leadership & Executive Management
- Collaborate with C-suite executives to develop and execute strategic plans that drive business growth and operational excellence
- Lead operational initiatives across all company locations and service lines
- Act as liaison between executive leadership and operational managers, communicating policy changes and business objectives
- Develop long-term strategies for operational growth, efficiency, and market expansion
- Oversee budget planning and management to achieve financial objectives across all operational divisions
Over-The-Road Operations Management
Direct all long-distance transportation operations including route planning, load optimization, and delivery schedulingManage transportation costs, fuel efficiency programs, and equipment utilization across the fleetEnsure optimal fleet size, composition, and maintenance to meet customer demandImplement technology solutions for fleet tracking, communication, and operational efficiencyCoordinate seamlessly between dispatch, customer service, warehouse, and field operations teamsBusiness Coaching & Leadership Development
Lead, develop, and coach General Managers and operational leaders to drive performance and enhance leadership capabilitiesConduct regular performance reviews and provide strategic guidance to foster continuous improvementPlan and execute quarterly leadership summits and training programsBuild high-performing, cohesive management teams across all locationsFoster a culture of accountability, innovation, and operational excellenceMulti-Location Operations Oversight
Support management of daily operations across multiple locations, optimizing resources and processesEnsure consistency in operational standards, procedures, and customer service deliveryImplement and monitor KPIs for on-time delivery, customer satisfaction, operational efficiency, and financial performanceCoordinate activities across locations to maximize efficiency and resource utilizationFleet & Equipment Management
Oversee fleet maintenance schedules, equipment lifecycle planning, and capital expenditure decisionsManage vehicle specifications, procurement, and disposal strategiesEnsure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and state transportation regulationsMaintain safety ratings, manage audits, and oversee regulatory reporting requirementsOversee commercial insurance requirements and claims managementDriver & Team Management
Develop comprehensive driver training programs and safety protocolsEnsure compliance with Hours of Service regulations and industry safety standardsFoster positive driver relations and implement retention strategiesManage driver compensation structures and performance evaluation systemsFinancial Management & Analysis
Develop and manage operational budgets and P&L responsibility across all divisionsAnalyze route profitability, pricing strategies, and operational cost structuresNegotiate contracts with vendors, service providers, and strategic partnersImplement cost reduction initiatives while maintaining or improving service qualityProvide financial analysis and reporting to executive leadershipProcess Improvement & Technology
Lead process improvement initiatives and operational efficiency projectsImplement and optimize transportation management systems (TMS) and operational technologyAnalyze market trends, competitive landscape, and operational best practicesDrive digital transformation and automation initiatives across operationsRequired Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Transportation, Logistics, Business Administration, Operations Management, or related fieldMinimum 5-10 years of progressive experience in transportation / logistics management with 5+ years in senior leadership rolesExtensive knowledge of DOT regulations, FMCSA requirements, and transportation industry standardsProven experience managing large fleets (100+ vehicles) and multi-location operationsStrong P&L management experience with demonstrated financial acumenExperience in business coaching, leadership development, and team buildingProven track record in operational efficiency, cost management, and strategic planningPreferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Business Administration or related fieldExperience specifically in household goods moving industry or related home servicesProfessional certifications (CTP, CTL, or similar transportation / operations credentials)Multi-location or franchise operations experienceKey Competencies
