Position Summary
The Revenue Accountant plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the organization's revenue reporting. This position is responsible for analyzing, recording, and reconciling revenue transactions in compliance with accounting standards and company policies. The Revenue Accountant collaborates closely with cross-functional teams, including IT, Finance, and Operations, to validate billing data, monitor revenue streams, and support month-end close processes. This role contributes directly to financial transparency and supports strategic decision making by delivering timely and reliable revenue insights.
Essential Functions
- Review and record customer and vendor rebate transactions to ensure proper classification under ASC 606 and company policy
- Maintain schedules of rebate accruals, settlements, and adjustments, reconciling these balances monthly
- Assist with calculating allowance for doubtful accounts based on aging, historical trends, and customer assessment
- Prepare periodic reports comparing budgeted vs. actual costs
- Prepare, examine, and analyze financial statements and accounting records for accuracy and compliance
- Identify and reconcile account discrepancies
- Ensure timely execution of bank payments
- Analyze business operations, financial trends, and commitments to forecast revenues and expenses
- Design, implement, and document accounting systems using current technologies
- Lead documentation preparation for internal and external audits
- Assess operational accounting needs and recommend solutions to financial challenges
- Ensure adherence to financial policies and regulatory standards
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support department or organization needs
Required Expertise
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field3–5 years of experience as a Pharmacy Rebate Accountant or Revenue Accountant, with demonstrated success in rebate reconciliation, revenue recognition, and financial reportingStrong knowledge of pharmaceutical rebate programs, contract terms, and compliance requirementsSolid understanding of revenue recognition principles and GAAPProficiency in Great Plains accounting softwareAdvanced Microsoft Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, complex formulas)Experience with general ledger functions and month-end / year-end close processesProven experience with A / R and A / P reconciliations, ensuring accurate ties to the revenue processExceptional analytical and problem-solving abilitiesHigh attention to detail and strong organizational skillsProactive self-starter with a strong sense of ownershipAbility to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlinesEffective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across functionPreferred Skills
