Job description

Overview :

We are seeking experienced Welders in South Georgia to support a high-profile naval submarine production program . This is a temp-to-hire opportunity for highly skilled professionals capable of meeting rigorous military and industrial quality standards . Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in hands-on welding techniques and possess strong technical comprehension . The role includes both practical weld testing and classroom-based assessments to verify readiness for this mission-critical work .

Key Responsibilities :

  • Perform structural welding using Pulse MIG and TIG with 100S wire (primary processes), along with Spray Transfer and Stick
  • Weld a range of materials according to established technical procedures
  • Interpret blueprints , assembly drawings , and frame references
  • Accurately read and apply weld symbols including fillet , bevel , double bevel , and all-around symbols
  • Use hand tools and equipment such as grinders , wire brushes , and weld gauges
  • Conduct oxy-fuel preheating , carbon arc gouging , and inspect welds for defects
  • Identify and understand base metal flaws and weld discontinuities (per NAVSEA 248 standards)
  • Maintain safety, cleanliness, and compliance across job sites
  • Follow Work Authorization Forms (WAFs), safety procedures, and quality requirements

Testing & Assessment Requirements :

  • Pass a hands-on weld test to demonstrate skill level
  • Complete a timed open-book assessment to confirm technical comprehension :
  • Identify components on blueprints (frames, assemblies, etc.)

  • Recognize and interpret standard weld symbols
  • Understand weld orientation (near / far side of reference lines)
  • Demonstrate strong academic, reading, and comprehension skills
  • Minimum Qualifications :

  • 5+ years of welding experience in shipbuilding, industrial, or related environments
  • Must pass a NAVSEA 248-compliant weld test
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Strong working knowledge of weld defects, prep work, and machine setup
  • Experience in confined spaces, elevated work areas, and adverse environments
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and be able to pass a backgroud check for security clearance requirements
  • Ability to work all shifts and overtime as needed
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Must provide own standard welding tools
  • Reliable transportation required
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Completion of vocational training, military welding school, or formal apprenticeship
  • Experience in naval shipyard or submarine manufacturing
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings , shipyard procedures , and weld specs
  • Solid math and measurement skills
  • Familiarity with working in military shipbuilding environments
  • Valid or obtainable U.S. passport
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% when required
  • Physical & Visual Requirements :

  • Must pass Jaeger J1 near-vision and Ishihara color vision tests
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces, at heights, and in extreme temperature / noise environments
  • Frequent climbing, kneeling, lifting, crawling, crouching, and standing required
  • Work Structure :

  • Reports to a Shop Supervisor
  • Works as part of a team focused on high-quality, safe, and timely completion of submarine production tasks
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean and secure work environment and proper documentation on site
