Field Service Engineer – Automation & Controls (Midwest, Travel Role)

Up to $45 / hr + Bonus + Full Benefits

Direct Hire | Full-Time | 70–80% Travel

Position Overview

The Field Service Engineer will be responsible for installing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintaining automation and control systems at customer facilities throughout the Midwest region and beyond . This position requires a combination of hands-on technical expertise, strong problem-solving ability, and customer-facing communication skills .

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, start up, and service automation and motion control systems at client sites.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control-related issues .
  • Perform preventive maintenance and emergency service on customer equipment.
  • Provide technical support, training, and documentation to customer maintenance teams and operators.
  • Collaborate with internal engineering, design, and project teams to drive system improvements and customer satisfaction.
  • Prepare detailed service reports and recommendations to enhance system reliability and performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Controls Engineering (or equivalent technical training / experience).
  • 3–5+ years of hands-on experience in field service, automation, or motion control environments.
  • Proficiency with PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.), HMIs, motion systems, and control hardware .
  • Strong ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation .
  • Proven troubleshooting skills across multi-disciplinary systems (electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic).
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and customer service skills.
  • Willingness to travel extensively (up to 70–80%) .
